Why does everyone seem to think that these 2 were together? Because I never got the impression that they were anything more than friends. Am I missing something?

In addition several comments from npcs, and Mikala herself. It's very obvious. Plus, y'know, the devs say? It wasn't left to the imagination.

Well that's all good and well if I were to take your word for it. But there's wasn't anything I came across in the game that made me think they were together.

Then you need to pay WAY more attention to all the info you're passing up. There are like 500 emails to read, dozens of recordings, videos... seriously it's right there. This game is all about the details. Every person (even the dead ones) on Talos 1 was "someone". The effort the devs put into the background and making those people feel like they had lives, is impressive.

There are these 2 that I could find:

"I still don't know what happened, I've put it behind me. But there's no reason we can't still be civil. You passed me in the hall today, and you looked through me. If you're angry at something I did, tell me, and we can talk about it. Pretending you don't even know who I am isn't going to help. We still have to work together".

No, there is a long wistful missive by Morgan on the computer in his room on the third floor of Crew Quarters. Explicitly stating he/she had to break off the relationship because of the use of neuromods (putting a strain on things because of memory loss) and the fact that Llyushin should not work in space becasue of paraplexis.

There is an audio log in Morgan's real room, one of six where he informs himself on his opinion about various people, and he states that they broke up and her condition made for a convenient excuse even if it wasn't the true reason.

Morgan literally states, "had brief relationship", meaning it is 100% definitive. Did you mishear it the first time you played?
