Prey

Survival mode has no real impact.
Just finished the base game on Nightmare with survival modes on and it really makes almost no difference at all. At worst I got a few third degree burns and some hemmoraging and only had to go out of my way twice to find a medical operator. Otherwise treatment items invalidate the status conditions and they don't happen very often anyway.

I had exactly one firearm break on me the entire time I played and only because I didn't watch its condition, I assumed it would be jam prone the lower the condition got, but it only screws up when it actually hits 1%. I never hurt for spare parts either and that's without the neuromod to collect addtional parts off of operators.

I don't have the DLC yet, but I assume this stuff was really designed for that instead and then just kind of tossed into the base game without any real testing.

Correct.

actually the status ailments were going to be in the base game but Arkane decided they're more annoying then anything else and decided not to add them in, someone posted a link to a video with Arkane devs and a streamer discussing it and others.

But yeah, game isn't that hard for decent gamers and is blown out of proporition with its difficulty levels. Certainly harder then most games these days, but that's simply because you actually need to use your brain and common sense at certain points.

Took me 13 hours to get through the DLC, but probably 2-3 of those hours were just relearning the game since I hadn't played since launch. Normally I prefer spending money on longevity over a short but good experience, but Arkane is certainly worth the invesment and i'm looking forward to future games from them. Which, from everything you learn from then base/dlc, it certainly points towards taking the fight to the aliens in another game.

I knew about the cut content, a lot of rebalancer mods have tried to reactivate it, but I have to admit I'm dissapointed with their inclusion into Prey. You're simply none the worse for having them on or off. I was hoping it would add some more tactics and challenge. I didn't care for the rebalance mods I tried, some good ideas mixed in with some pretty goofy design choices.

Guess I just have to wait till I can afford the DLC, flat broke right now.

I know this varies from person to person, but IMO the DLC's not worth it. So wait for a VERY good sale. Eveything indicates that the MP mode coming this summer will be much, much better.
Basically everything they cut out, is suddenly back in because.. suddenly they didn't think of them as incredibly annoying anymore(?!). I don't know. Makes no sense.
DLC is everything that is annoying stacked into one. Single-handedly the most unfun gaming experience I've ever had. But hey, there's always skins updates and mimics with hats!

Probably the best idea, as much as I liked Prey I'd hate to get burned.
