Unofficial FAQ about Mooncrash
So from what I've looked at it in a few discussion threads, a lot of you have questions and from the 2 hours I put into the DLC so far, I can answer a few things. Sort of like an F.A.Q from my perspective (These are either factual answers or opinion based, do not get tilted)

Q - Is the DLC permadeath?
A - To a degree, essentially from what I gather, you die, you lose the ability to use that character again in your CURRENT playthrough. What I mean is that when you die, you can hop to another character, however, if you run out of all usable characters, the simulation will "Reset", this effectively changes the map, loot locations, weapons, hell, even crew member corpses and of course, enemies. So don't feel too disheartened when you lose someone. Although...try not to die..

Q - What is the difficulty like?
A - Well, I guess that varies from one generated map to another, the first playthrough of the Volunteer and Engineer I believe are scripted, it will then promptly reset the whole thing and allow you to play through with either character to try and unlock the other characters. This is where difficulty comes into play, these unlocks are dependent on your ability to explore, for example, one of the characters requires you to find a psychoscope in the labs. Now difficulty at the start is relatively easy I would imagine, however as most of you know, there is a "corruption level" and this will increase with time and will inevitably reach a new level which spawns stronger enemies, respawns areas with those enemies (Including cleared zones) and it just gets much much worse. Hell I reckon the Nightmare spawns at level 4 - 5. At the end however of these corruption levels, the simulation resets at max level.
TL:DR - Gear placement and enemy placement is RNG, difficulty varies. Corruption levels make it way harder. Enemies Respawn. Status ailments are extremely detrimental.

Q - Is the DLC worth getting?
A - Personally, I would say yes. This varies from person to person, if you're a big fan of the roguelite-esque games, 100% yes. If you're a fan of Prey and would love some more content, narrative, mini storylines, 100% yes. If you liked the game but didn't really invest much time into it, maybe not for you. (I would like to add that some pricing in other countries are really...strange. I paid £12, to me that was worth it 100%)

Q - How to repair guns at low durability?
A - Get the skill Repair 1, it will allow you to use spare parts to repair guns. (Answer credit goes to Agenta1999) I didn't actually bother repairing anything yet.

Q - Isn't the currency system OP since you can buy infinite pistol ammo for super cheap after the first run?
A - See, you would think that, but as I got through to higher corruption levels for the sake of experimenting, the pistol became absolute trash and was not worth even holding on to. It's strong as hell if you want to rush through a level and get to the end ASAP, but where is the fun in that ;)

Q - Are characters customisable or gender switchable?
A - Nope, they are the way they are and you can't change it, this is mainly due to each character having their own unique background and story objectives.

Q - How do I hack terminals?
A- Strangely enough, the janitor has the ability to hack terminals and the likes. Just use her to hack and then the Engineer to repair stuff that needs repairing or vice versa. (Credit goes to Shakaka for the answer)

Q - Is there any way to transfer items from character to character?
A - Yes, there is a companion operator that you can eventually summon but will dissappear after simulations reset and you can put items in it and summon it as any other character to use those items, this is very handy as I have tried myself! (Credit goes to Shakaka for the answer again!) There is also a second way, you can put any item in any container so long as you know you will pass it as another character in the same run, all items will persist between characters so if you have a full inventory of resources or want to leave weapons/ammo/healing supplies behind, just put them in the containers (Credit goes to RCMidas)

Q - What happens once we have completed all story objectives with each character in a single run?
A - Well, according to Shakaka (Once again), you will actually get an ending. However, due to the fact that there is no NG+ for the DLC as to for example have fun and mess around with your fully levelled characters, you in fact have to start a fresh save with no progression carried over. Keep this in mind if you would like to continue messing around before fully finishing your run.

Please post in questions underneath that relate to the game and if I can answer I will update the thread. Also feedback is much appreciated, it's my first time doing one of these after all. Thank you!

P.s - Quick tip, lure the Moon shark into a tentacle nest, the nest will 1 shot kill the Shark and the shark has a chance to drop an Elite rarity chipset.

About the ending, you do not have to complete ALL the story missions in a single run, you just have to complete them all together. I finished with only escaping with the Volunteer and had 2 death characters. When you complete that last story objective, the game is over.

Id like to add a thing.

If you die your character becomes a typhon, which has all your items you had in your inventory. if you get lucky you might find it.

I cant confirm if its always tho as iv only found it once. I was lucky and it appeared as a technopath in the same area, in the crater, but soon after that i got raped by a moon shark due to playing as the volenteer and couldent get past the gate.

There is a chipset that prevents that from happening, and it only happens if you are nearby a certain typhon.

Hmmm. If you can, just for the sake of experiment sakes, can you do a run if you have the time and die with 2 characters in a row and see if you can find the resulting typhon, maybe an unedited video clip? Just wanna make sure I get things right before posting them up :)

Out of curiousity, which specific Typhon triggers such an event? Is it linked with corruption level or perhaps a certain ability a Typhon uses when killing your character?
Shakaka Jun 16, 2018 @ 10:43am
One of the Typhons, I think the weaver, can turn human corpses into typhons. It's very similar to the Genesis ability. I have to start over and find the chipset again to see which one it actually is, as I have already beaten the game and cannot play on that file anymore.

I'm trying to do the Engineer's story objective, but can't find anything in the doctor's room to advance it. Do I really have to hack the console with another character in order to finish this one character's story objective?

yes

There a note that talks about her leaving the password on her desk all the time. If you look behind the desk under the forniture, move the boxes and you'll find the code.

Which makes me wonder if it's possible to escape through the mimic portal without hacking the computer, if it's possible to find the password.

No, look at the terminal. The mimic terminal is messed up and does not have the ability to even put in a password. You have to hack it with the custodian.

Once you've gone into the simulation as a character is there a way to go back out other than escaping or dying?

I don't think so, I have yet to find a way to do it. The game mode makes world changes with each character you log into as.
NerV Jun 17, 2018 @ 1:45pm
They are talking about the medical bay next to Alex Yu office. That only becomes available when you start your memory marker with the engineer. Turn 180 from the computer (after you take out the dr) and look below the table, there will be neuromods and a password.

The mimic portal has to be fixed by the engineer and then hacked by the custodian. Only then can the volunteer escape through the mimic portal and finally unlock his story.
NerV Jun 17, 2018 @ 1:49pm
You are also correct that if you die your corpse turns into a typhon. My volunteer died by stepping on electrified water. I reloaded with Riley Yu and went back to the spot where I died and my volunteer was a phantom with all my belongings. There is a chip set that prevents you becoming a typhon when dead, i will check through my chip sets shortly and confirm the name of it.
Shakaka Jun 17, 2018 @ 2:00pm
In that chipset, the description says which typhon does it. And I was responding to the mimic terminal... not the engineer quest one.
