Its not scary at all. I mean of course theres jumpscare due to the nature of the enemies. But you'll feel tension instead of fear

This game can be VERY creepy and quite scary especially if you play (like me) evenings/nights with headphones...

I dont fair well with scary game but I'm fine with watching horror movies though. I may give this game a try after all
The most jumpscary thing is if a Mimic undisguises itself and jumps at you, or you get zapped by a Power Junction you can't see. There's also a couple more jumpscares later on (Special mention to the one in Psychotronics with the Looking Glass. You know what you are...) but the game doesn't base its atmosphere off jumpscares alone.

Tension-wise, you can probably feel scared in the first hour or so of the game when you're almost powerless against the Typhon. Maybe again when Nightmare begins its hunt. Thaaat's about it, though.

If you attempt to explore every nook and cranny of the space station and does multiple playthrough for the powers/no powers/no upgrades achievement then the game does extends quite a bit.

Jumps scares are mostly by Mimics, however I have two when two first NighMare appeared...

In mine opinion, what makes game more creepy is... Music! Especially on headphones :keyboardcat:

I do not like Horror movies (except few exceptions ;) Like last time "IT"...) but this game is also SF which I love, so SF Horror is OK for me (first "Alien" for example) :) So this game too! I like the atmosphere...

Even now when I can kill two phantoms with wrench only (on slow time PSI ability maxed up)! Or NighMare too, by QBeam gun, it has this atmosphere for me...

So I suggest you can try too! ;)

Oh and I am playing slow, so 41h and I think about 2/3 story. I play only human powers, explore and recycle everything etc...

its not stressfull like other horror Games ( Alien Isolation etc. )
Its more like Bioshock with some Horror Aspects / Creepy Moments.
Maybe just try it and use refund function or watch lets plays ? :)

You could slice the atmosphere with a knife, it's so dank. Wouldn't say scary, but there's some good tension.

The only Scary part of the Game is when you get a needle in the eye to gain "Super Powers". None of the baddies are scary, although they may surprise you. Surprised and Scared is completely different.

There are some scary moments, like first NighMare encounter, jump scare with Mimics etc...
However if you are a brave person, it is not something you will have a nightmares at night ;)
Oh and of course, best is to play (like me) at nights with headphones... ;) During bright day, and with 2.1 sound you loose half or more from tension/atmosphere!

I didn't play at night but the room was blacked out (to keep costs down on cooling/heating). I only run with headphones. Still I didn't find it scary, not remotely. Will it make you jump, sure. The first Nightmare encounter I was in a shaft, never saw it even. The first one I saw was Ok, How do I avoid this. The mimics generate more paranoria/tension than the Nightmare. I also did a Human only playthrough.

I'm almost at the end and I've experienced only one scripted jump scare so far (when you open a certain door in a certain place). Seems like I've missed the one you've mentioned. Can you help me out (spoiler text if need be).

In the place where there are phantoms contained. In the office on the level there should be a way further down with a looking glass that has a green button on it.
