I am so♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!! Rani dies for no reason!!!!
I don't know what is going on or how to fix this! Rani is always dead when I first arrive in Arboretum in every run so far! She is always dead along with some other guy in the Arboretum when I first arrive. (forgot to clarify, their heads are not exploded) Only one guy is alive, usually Mickey Pitt Sr. I went back to GUTS and saved, then deleted Arboretum folder in my save file to reset Arboretum. Then I went back in.
Arboretum is reset but the Telepath and the mind controlled people are not in the greenhouse anymore. I do not know what to do to get Rani to stop being dead, and deleting the Arboretum data doesn't seem to help because they don't spawn when I did that. I wanna do the Save Rani quest! Anyone know how I can fix this? And do I have to somehow "remove" the quests that were Arboretum and Crew Quarters related that I got since then?

You'd have to actually start from a save point before you go there.

Ew. :/

I'd say.... save her next time. It's unfortunate, but if you don't have a save from before that, it's likely that anything else you might do (particularly 'removing and replacing files'...) will probably mess up the game further.

Is it possible that you'd wandered too close to the greenhouse? Did you turn on the sprinklers in it or anything at all? Because generally that will alert the telepath, and it might have led to her dying. You can't get too close to the people being controlled, because their heads will explode...

Sounds like one of dem file corruptions people seem to run into. You know what to do, I hope.

Try the roof of the greenhouse and kill the telepath from above. I killed this ugly ballon with the modded pistol, battle focus and damage bonus for the security guns. Rani's mates got unconcious after the ballon popped, but they all survived to the very end of the game (peaceful, escape and explosion).

I snuck around and stun gunned them, just to be on the safe side. I didn't want them running up too close underneath me as I was prone to falling off the roof and down to the ground.

Huh, that is VERY odd. :/

I wonder, do you have the audio log basically telling you about her / get a message to help her? Maybe that's one of the triggers to have them up and around, and otherwise they'd just be dead?

I have no idea why she would be dead. I litterally just saved her a little while ago (15min?). She was up and stomping around while I was tight rope walking the railings up top above. I am also playing on like next to hardest difficulty. But since this is my first play through, maybe I am being more thorough? Maybe her being up is a triggered event from reading a computer or going into another room? Google it and see what information you can find on her character. It might have a quest already detailed out that puts her up rather than down. Of course I snuck up on that telepath thingamabob. I tossed out a recycler hoping it would work (nope) as well as one of those psyonic emp grenades and went to town on it with a shot gun. Chased it out of the greenhouse and down several flights of stairs. When I got back to the greenhouse, she was up and ranting about going somewhere, but gave me a code. The other guy in the greenhouse with her was unconscious. Are you sure she is dead? Maybe she is just unconscious.

That is indeed odd. You said "on every run" but did you actually start over with a completely new campaign-save or did you just reload an earlier savegame?

I had a quest bugging out (Mikhailas Father Quest) in my first playthrough and no matter how far I'd went back in savefiles, the Quest was still broken. I had no problems with this quest or any other quests on my second playthrough with a new campaign savefile though.

I think stuff like this has something to do with the world/simulationbuilding and it seems like this is done on the first load of a new campaign. I'd say this quest is just lost for you.

Well on my (so far only) play through, the telepath was basically centered in the room between the two rows of agriculture tests, well away from the human puppets. I used the GlooGun to climb the wall outside and was up top. So the grenades didn't affect them at all (the recycler did get some of the fruits) after shimmying over to the center. But I through the recycler first (which in essence stunned it a second while the singularity was doing its thing, I was also crouched so it and the puppets didn't immediately find me either) and I switched to that psi grenade which rendered it's psionic attacks useless for 10 seconds. I then introduced it to my boomstick. It tried flying away, but I ran it down. Again, she was alive. If she is already dead when you first get there, I have no clue.

Maybe something is just wrong with your game install? Try having steam scan the files. Because there are numerous people here who have not experienced this yet, but are throwing out lots of ideas.
