Prey
My god the mimics...
Been interested in the game for sometime but never thought to get it. Growing backlog, full price, passed it for the time being. On sale though so thought "eh why not". Have mostly stayed away from let's plays and the like since I hoped one day I would get around to playing it. Watched a wee bit of early gameplay but my god is this ♥♥♥♥ nerve racking when you play it yourself.

I am not good with horror games as is but on top of that, I am a natural scrounger. If it ain't nailed down and I can use it for something, it's coming with me. Game wants you to search around while giving you all types of possible heart attack. Haven't even made it too far from the breaking out of the room bit. Few mimic surprises in and i'm already on break.

At this point I am wondering if finding what is and isn't a mimic will get easier. Pretty much smacking everything but as it stands I might not make it xD~

Do yourself a favor. When you get the one thing that helps you find mimics. Dont use it. It kinda ruins the suspense of searching around a bit :P. Half the fun in thr game is figuring out when a mimic is around anyways .

Actually there is something from the get go that helps you to discover nearby mimics. Won't spoil it for you, go figure it out yourself ;)

There are a couple things in the game that help you, as the above two have said.

One is an object/equipment you receive a little ways into the game.

The other is a natural affinity or sense that nearly all of us have (those that don't are exceptions, sad as it is), that you have from the very start.

I never thought the mimics were really that threatening. Somewhat of a silly little jump scare but easily dealt with. The Greater Mimics went down with one shotgun shot for me, so real easy.

Exactly why I cant get myself to play it again. Its just agonizing to have those things jump at you every 2 minutes.

Pay attention to the environment. Try to memorise how things are placed. If something is placed in an unusual way, for example there are 3 shoes next to each other, be on alert.

There are other ways, but I won't spoil them for you.

You become pretty good at spotting and dealing with mimics soon enough and they become less of a jump scare... so much so that when Prey served me a good old traditional jump scare about 24 hours in I literally fell off my chair. :)

Oh just wait.

They get better.

I keep yelling at my screen.

The only time the mimics are ever annoying or life-threatening is when you play on Hard+ difficulty and you go to that one storage closet in Life Support. Holy ♥♥♥♥ that is a lot of mimics. I think there must be 8-10 mimics in that one cramped space.

How you suppose to win against that

Recycler charge and kinetic blast.

I like how Arkane animated the smaller ones, they remind me of Calvin from "Life".

Most of the time, I attempt to club them to oblivion.

I played on hard difficulty, died alot but it was satisfying to dispatch them that way.

I just figure once you get into Nightmare territory, they're kinda like "oh what cute little things" *CLUBS THEM TO DEATH*.

They're like headcrabs. The little ones are cute, but those faster and poisonous ones..... *shudder*
