Prey
Found a System Shock reference in Prey!
Edit: I also noticed in the scripts and remembered that in the game, corrupted Engineering Operators can say, "There's a risk of severe system shock if you don't shut down." Is this a possible System Shock reference?

I was curious about the script of certain characters and looked into them (just for fun) and I found a Medical Operator one and there are some lines that don't appear in game. The ones the Med Op says about broken bones, burns, bleeding, etc. I can understand not being there because those traumas were scrapped so the Med Op won't say them but there are some in which they say something about offering you some Big Bang Candy and corrupted Medical Operators saying morbid things while you are hiding, like, "Don't be shy. It's normal to experience...asphyxia...during doctor visits."

I see a lot of text that did not show up in game. Is there a reason some of these (other than the trauma related text) don't appear in game? It would expand on the different things they say and make it to where you aren't hearing so much of the same script in game, and this also goes for other characters that have script that doesn't appear in game. I wonder if there is a way to get them to show up in game. I am also curious to actually listen to the voice clippings of some character script.

Usually things don't make it into the game due to time limits, or because there just wasn't enough time to include it all before launch, due to them having to focus on more important content closer to launch.

If they actually recorded the lines for the corrupted medical operators, it would be great if they added them into the game via a patch.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock

1. Developed by "Looking Glass Technologies". In Prey, they are using "Looking Glass technology" for video recordings.
2. Takes place on a space station near Earth, where things go horribly wrong and you have to fight against automated defense systems, overcome locked doors, fight monsters - some organic, some cybernetic.
3. Features healing stations.
4. Multiple approaches to each problem - stealth, combat, hacking...
5. Upgrades to weapons.

LGT lost intellectual property rights, so they cannot make "System Shock" games. At some point, they formed "Irrational Games" and made Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Bioshock Infinite.

Some people who worked on System Shock also worked on Prey (2017).

So, YEAH, there are references to System Shock. This IS "System Shock 3", or a game as close to it as it could be without running into legal issues. The only thing missing is for the Evil Computer system to be called Shodan :-)

And lets not forget the door code to Morgan's office is 0451.
The very first door you unlock in System Shock has the code 451.

Really? I didn't know that as I have never played System Shock.

You really should. There is an enhanced edition of the original that greatly improves the controls from the original by adding mouse look support. And makes it move and feel a lot more like modern fps games.
Graphics are a bit dated by todays standard. But that wonderful voice of Shodan more than makes up for it. But the gameplay still holds up really well.

But if you're the patient type, there is a remake in the works and it looks amazing.

Wow, I shall have to consider it in the future if we ever get out of our bad financial situation. XD
The enanced edition of the original is on sale right now at 75% off. Well worth it if you ask me.
