Prey
[SPOILERS] Scanning a troublesome Typhon
So Im going to try and be as clear but non-descript as possible for anyone who is just scrolling past and hasnt gotten to where I am but I really need help as Im a curious player.

Nearing the end of the game something quite large turns up at Talos 1 and it seems that all airlocks are sealed except the cargo bay ones yet the bay area is blocked from all sides so its impossible to exit there aswell, Im asking how to you scan this large being outside the station? I've got my face pressed to the glass and looking right at its face but Im not even getting the options.

I know it can be done as theres people discussing the results but how do you do it? Is there a specific spot to be?

I haven't actually managed it either, but I saw the scan reticule jump between the tendrils and onto the big Typhon itself, but it was outside of my range right in the beginning, in the Arboretum. Give it a try up there and use the chipsets for fast and long-range scanning, but I'm not sure if I was targeting the Apex or just a tendril I haven't noticed.

Unless you're talking about the tendrils themselves, in that case you need to be in an area where they're going after you and scan them, like the Arboretum or the Lobby.

Also, once I went to Psychotronics to set up the nullwave device, January told me to not scan the big thing because "all that awaits me is pain" so ehmm you might wanna watch out.

Yeah, I looked it up.
Don't scan it. Scan it's tendrils, fine. Do not scan the Apex. Very bad things will happen.

Yeah but I want those bad things to happen is why Im asking, like I said Im curious and want bad things.

You take a lot of damage. Nothing interesting happens.

Here's what happens:
You go down to 1 HP, lose all Psi, and you have Fear as a Status effect
Which isn't too terribly interesting, now is it?

Like I mean no disrespect but how are people so unhelpful?

I literally asked how to do it but all I've gotten is "heres what it does, now you dont have to do it".
Im a gamer because I like doing things myself even if I know the outcome! If I didnt WANT to do IT I'd just watch a youtube video but since literally no one is answering where to do it from and how to do it and just saying WHAT happens its really unhelpful.

I mean, if you're a gamer that wants to do it, why don't you figure out a way to do it? I'm not even there yet, and won't be for a while

You probably aren't looking to do this anymore since your post was about a year ago, but if anyone else finds this looking to do the same, to scan it get real close to the glass while looking at the Apex (not the moving bits close to the window). I had to move left from where Alex was if you're facing away from his hidey-hole.

For anyone who's still looking, I managed it by going to the top of the Arboretum, aiming at the head then looking down till the psychoscope locked on. It was about the chest area just under the things chin. I had the increased range chipset as well, but don't know if it's actually necessary.

I know this is very old but should the result of the scan appear in your data/research tab?
Because I think I managed to scan it (I spot one area where it says "no new data") but I haven't got anything in my research tab....
Its called 'Alpha Typhon' in the research tab.

I would recommend not to
