See, others can be crass too. If you're sincerley not a troll, then I would advise not insulting people while asking for help.
you can completely negate that by using TFGH notice how your pinky rests perfectly on X, that's how you crouch.
But in case your point was sincere and not just an excuse to battle injustice, height can be visually parsed but it is an extra thing to look at. When an enemy comes around the corner I don't have time to look at the wall and gauge how high the light switch is. Many games such as Dishonored (and Prey itself I believe) provide a special new UI icon that shows you whether you're crouched or not, and it's ridiculous that they felt that was necessary. If people not remembering whether they're crouched is enough of a problem that you have to add in special UI notifications for it, it's worth including an option that eliminates that problem in the first place.
you know, TFGH instead of WASD, way more button to your left and its much easier using your pinky to press letter keys rather than ctrl, shift, tab
you get S, D, Z, X as extra easy to use pinky keys, you also never need to take a finger of the movement keys to use them.
Moving myself away from the left side for movement causes my hands to rest closer together, which is uncomfortable. Moving my keyboard to make that more comfortable causes my touch-typing to get messed up (I'm a near complete touch typist. Only thing I do not know is the symbols, the 9 keys directly above the arrow keys and to the upper right of the numpad, and the function keys.) So in order to use something else I have to constantly move my keyboard, which is irritating and inconvienient.
So yes, I hadn't considered other control schemes, which would in theory make hold-crouch more comfortable. I still think that toggle-crouch is better as you press and forget, opening up that pinky finger (Or whatever finger you are using) for another button press, like opening the inventory or swapping to specific weapons. It still might be worse for certain crouch-spam tricks (Such as one specific buff in Warframe), but for situations where you will be crouching a lot, I will always prefer toggle crouch. Only game franchise I wouldn't like it in is Half Life due to crouch-jumping.
Still, options are good. Though, based on what I read earlier, Auto-Hotkey can be used to fix that, though I do realize some individuals do not consider that an option for some reason that is their choice, even if it is ignoring posibilities that can possibly take a couple minutes to set up. Though I will argue that PC gaming is not the gaming of options due to the developer support, it is the gaming of options due to the software/mods available, a variety of input methods, and customizability in comparison to a home console like a PS4 or Xbox.
still a hasel and less fluid having to hold down a button to stay in crouch mode..its much more easyer and comfortable to use a mouse thumbutton and one click. i Also like to have a control layout that works for other games so i dont have to change things much. for example using Q and E to lean left and right. you would not be able to do that if you were using TFGH
For an "old school PC player" you sure sound pretty millennial with this "refunded cuz no crouch hold".
In this case it wasn't rhetoric. I fired up the game and found that Arkane once again gave me a product that was a pain in the ass. A game with crap controls (ironically, tuned for console millenials only) just isn't worth my time or money these days, so I did refund. They can do better, easily.
I have nothing against the younger generation of people getting used to toggle crouch on key C. But why it's always too hard for developers to add a damn option to choose between hold and toggle? Why on the earth?! I refused to play many other games because of that, really.
There's some game, forgot which one, which had even toggle sprint. And every time you hit any obstacle your sprint disables. So you have to press shift again. And in the action it makes frustrating to press all buttons because you never know if you're still running or already walking like an idiot.
HOLD CROUCH
HOLD SPRINT
Please dammit!
