Agreed. I'm amazed they didn't consider this. The original Prey is no longer avaiable on Steam (for some wierd reason) but there are still plenty of people who converted their retail keys to Steam like I did.
Side note, I had a lot of fun playing the original Prey. Loved how they had (Art Bell radio show) Coast to Coast radio broadcasts throughout the ship, with random callers on the radio show talking about the events you were experiencing.
That could well be true, although I for one don't know who in the chain is ultimately responsible for designating what the default install directory's name would be. You would think Steam would have a database of all "taken" install directory names to avoid this.
I guess it is unusual to have two games with the exact same name on Steam. The only other one that springs to mind is Doom. The original Shadow Warrior and the Shadow Warrior remake avoid this error becuase the the original gets installed to "Shadow Warrior Classic".
Does Steam backup select ALL files contained in the install directory, or does it backup select files according to some list or database?
Also, if you run File Verification, does it remove any unknown files in the directory that were NOT installed by the respective game? If I run File Verification on Prey 2017, would it remove all the original Prey 2006 files?
I agree that both games work fine, so as such, this is not a "game breaking" problem but it is almost certainly an oversight on someone's behalf. There is no way they would deliberately do this....it's just seems a bit flaky, as this might have caused issues.
