Prey

Why is this called Prey?
I'm currently 17 hours into the game and I'm honestly enjoying it a lot. Reminds me of System Shock, much more so than the supposedly "spiritual successor" Bioshock.

But, it has NOTHING to do with Prey. All it does is alienating fans of the original Prey and makes discussion bothersome. Since I now have to preface Prey, such as "original Prey", to declare if I talk about the original or this game.

Same, It plays like System Shock, nothing close to Prey.
Maybe Beth marketing for dummies?

They might as well have called this The Elder Scrolls. Same thing. Bethesda owns Prey trademark, that is all. They just slapped it on this title for funsies and to get more recognition.

Bethesta slapped the Prey name on this game late in development. They did so supposedly because if they diddn't use the name they would loose the right to it's trademark. It's a publisher thing, the game itself has nothing to do with Prey and was never indended to by its developers

reputedly they chose prey because the aliens prey upon the humans, and you are -quite- fragile early on, and will have to learn to love the quicklord button.

Arkane wanted to do a System Shock 2 successor.

Bethesda killed the amazing development work that had gone into Prey 2 as originally developed by Human Head Studios. You can still view their site for that game here: http://humanhead.com/games-prey2.html

Bethesda forced Arkane to brand their sci-fi horror game as PREY despite the fact that there's just about zero relation to the original game.

Probably a couple reasons for this, not least of which they wanted to assert their ownership over the IP, rather than Human Head's version of a Prey sequel.

The title fits the game. It's not meant to have anything to do with the original Prey.

Or you could use the rls year, you know like everyone else did with doom last year.

Prey was not a big name and nearly nobody is remembering it either, the most "fans" i saw talking about that were whining about the cancelled prey 2. And i find it funny how some spoke about that like it were a masterpiece, without even ever played themselves.

It is a re-imagining of the game, not sequel or an exact reboot.

Then why call it "Prey"?

Becasue bethesda wanted it to name like an ip they already owned.
Nothing can change that now, so stop being annoying kid and most of all hurting a great game with your posts here.

History Lesson:

Human Head made the First Prey.
Bethesda hires Human Head to Make Prey 2/
Bethesda Screws over Human Head, driving them into debt, and then offers to buy them out.
Human Head Gives Bethesda middle finger.
Prey 2 is never made.
Arkane Studios starts new IP
Bethesda tasks Arkane with Prey
Bethesda takes Arkane's new IP and slaps Prey over it

The "Original Prey" was in development in 1995, kept being redesigned (like Duke Nukem Forever) and was finally released in 2006 (except I don't think it failed in comparison to Duke Nukem Forver).

Then Bethesda claimed the rights during the Prey 2 production, and cancelled it because it was not living up to anything close to the first Prey game.

Because they own the name, and it fits the game.

Bethesda Profits.

Again, bethesda asked them to use the name.

You should write bethesda slaps the name prey on the ip arkane worked on at the time.
