Prey
To Developers - Ironman / Hardcore / Limmited Saves Mode Please !!!
I am not too far into the game but having played video games for the 35 years I am more than confident to mark this title as Classic and GOTY. Simply love it!

However, one thing that kind of kills immersion for me are frequent autosaves and unlimited saves...

What I would love to see - at least on Nightmare mode! - is better, more 'realistic', more immersive save system.

Game would be perfect if we need to find some kind of 'save game' cards on Talos that we can use on some computer terminals to save our progress. They would obviously be usable items so once you use your 'save card' it is gone from your inventory and you can't save the game until you find another one.

Or perhaps some 'save game pods' that are scattered around the station as the only places where we can save our progress.

Anything down this line would make me super happy :)

Anyone one else feels the same?

If you want any of this awful console-newbie stuff then you should probably just buy a newbie console because it's all utter poison on the PC. In fact this console newbie poorly designed stuff (because it's what you do when you can't design a game) is the reason why I didn't buy Doom or SW2. PS: Sorry but I'm just glad that a few console newbies are annoyed for once as opposed to proper gamers which are always PC players.

No idea what you are talking about...

Love the game and the way it plays on PC. I have never ever owned a console in my life and am gaming since ZX Specturm and Commodore 64 (That is since the early 1980s for people who dodn't know what ZX and C64 are about)

This topic is simple personal wish for the game to become even more 'hard-core' than it already is.

Prey, in my humble opinion, definetly needs an optional 'survival' / 'ironman' / 'hard-core' mode (or call it whatever you wish) that limits the saves (one way or the other)...

I think this shouldn't be that hard to achieve via update or DLC and am hoping that we will see it eventually :)

Too many auto saves?

Play a fallout or TES and come back so you can praise the sun there were constant auto saves.

Never have too many auto saves and need more cowbell.

I am not against auto and unlimited saves at all - they are great! :)

I am talking about OPTIONAL 'survival' mode that can be switched on or off with simple tick of a box that woud disable auto-saves completely and provide limited manual saves via some sort of ingame mechanic (see OP for couple of ideas).

That's all...

Like it and fancy a challange? Tick the box!

Don't like it and don't fancy a challenge? Leave the box unticked!

Simple...

Touché.

More and more games do have a nightmare/Hell/♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ impossible modes, and I could see a slider or turn off ability for auto saves.

I'm not sure limiting how many you can have is a good idea tho in a exploration game like this, as if you make a mistake with a mod or break down the wrong item you're screwed. I personally like to make a manual save before bosses or difficult enemy areas.

Just my 2 coppers tho. I love the game too!!

It would be for 'gaming masochists' only, obviously...

There are fair few about, including myself! :)

As for the game...

Intially I thought this is GOTY material. Now, screw that! This is one of the best games that I have EVER played :D

This is more than just 'love'...

Fingers crossed for DLCs, Expnsions, Sequals etc. is all I can say...

Plus, if possible, 'hard-core' mode as well, please ;)

You know that you can easily "enable hardcore mode" in any game with saves simply by never ever loading a save other than when you return to continue your previous playsession?

Yes... And that is what I am doing, but it kills my immersion.

I much rather have optional ingame mechanic such as usable 'game save cards' or similar as per OP.

i use quicksave/quickload as part of the game. without this, i would have quit after an hour of permanently dying and having to restart from who knows where.

Ignore the naysayers. I know exactly what you mean and I hope someone mods the game and puts it in. It is still important with regular automatic saves so you can resume if the game crashes.

I know very well that I am not alone here :)

Prey is essentially survival game so let's have optional, true survival mode added to it...

As siad before - I would even happily pay extra for it!

Agreed, would totally love a harder difficulty setting. Maybe even with a timer on top of it(like a countdown until the station explodes, or the O2 is leaking, I loved the timer in Fallout 1 and Dead Rising, the extra tention was awesome), I realize that it would be against exploration, but it would be for the more experienced Prey players anyway.

Maybe Arkane knew we will want something like this, that would explain the save errors lol.

but save points are never a good mechanic.

Disagree. It makes the game more difficult because you are forced to not screw up for a longer period of time. With quicksave all you need to do is save scum every second.

In fact, through my entire playthrough I never relied on quicksave. Using autosaves was the only thing I could do to make the game more challenging on Nightmare.

That isn't more difficult, that is just adding time to a game and nothing else.

I don't really understand your train of thought. Having to do less mistakes doesn't make it more difficult? Having a 5 second rewind button doesn't make it easier?
