Game freezing in Linux
Hi there,

I'm having troubles with Limbo, in the very begining of the game. The game starts well, clean and fast, but when the boy wakes up and I start running, as soon as I get in the log to go down the ravine, the game just become slow until the point it freezes, and I can only get out with an Alt+F4.

Does anyone got a problem like this before?

I've managed to pass the part it was freezing by running Steam from a terminal, but still stutters and lags a lot, and also is tearing a lot too, even with vsync on in the system. Also, there are no errors or warnings in the terminal while running.

It's not a bad machine by any means (specs bellow) and even demanding games run better.

System: Host: Aspire-E5-573G Kernel: 5.4.0-42-generic x86_64 bits: 64
Desktop: Cinnamon 4.6.6 Distro: Linux Mint 20 Ulyana
Machine: Type: Laptop System: Acer product: Aspire E5-573G v: V3.72
Mobo: Acer model: ZORO_BH v: Type2 - A01 Board Version
UEFI: Insyde v: 1.37 date: 02/16/2016
CPU: Dual Core: Intel Core i5-5200U type: MT MCP speed: 1081 MHz
min/max: 500/2700 MHz
Graphics: Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 5500 driver: i915 v: kernel
Device-2: NVIDIA GK208BM [GeForce 920M] driver: nvidia v: 440.100
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.8 driver: modesetting,nvidia
unloaded: fbdev,nouveau,vesa resolution: 1366x768~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce 920M/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 440.100

Any ideas?

Just one update; in Microsoft Windows 10 (same machine) the game is working flawlessly...maybe driver or runtime issue in Linux? Anyone else with this game in Linux?

Best regards.

Works fine here.
Debian 10 x64, kernel 5.6.14
Laptop with Core i5-8250U, Intel UHD Graphics 620 + Nvidia GTX 1050 - works fine both with integrated graphics and Nvidia(via optirun). Nvidia driver is also 440.100.

Check settings.txt file and try to change some values - backbufferheight, windowedmode, use30hz, use8bitrender, fluctuaion_detection. Don't forget to uncomment them.

I think i'm late but...
The same thing happened to me, with Linux Mint 20 Ulyana.
I entered the local game files and then to settings.txt I changed this line
# use30hz = false
for this other
# use30hz = true
I entered the game and it worked, then I left the game, returned the line to how it was, entered the game again and it worked wonderfully.

Hi there,

Thank you all for the replies. In the end, I did nothing and the game became "normal" again, when I played it again. Probably an update of some system library since I opened this post.

Best regards.
