- The hero can gain a maximum of 10 new levels per map. This is much easier/quicker to do on some maps than others.
- The game tracks both 'kills' and xp. You can see your hero's kill-count if you mouse over their current level number displayed just below their portrait in the bottom left of the UI. The xp tracker is the purple bar just above it.
- Not all 'kills' are created equal. For example, on scenario 2, it takes almost 820 skeleton-kills to hit the 10-level-up max. Whereas in scenario 5 you hit the 10-level limit within far fewer kills of zombies and the like. So that would seem to indicate that different xp is awarded for different monster types, even though only the raw kill-count total is displayed.
- Only enemies killed directly by the hero count towards kill-count, though apparently those killed by your troops count 25% towards xp. To count full, the final blow has to come from the hero's weapon. So to level your hero quickest, go out and solo some re-spawn monster bases.
- You still loot gold from dead monsters, even if your hero has hit their 10-level-up max. Resurrected monsters that die again add gold each time too! So late in the match, it becomes more about farming gold rather than xp. Hence monster respawn-bases = unlimited gold.
