However, if after completing the quest, after turning it back in to Patrice, if you go and tell the Arishok about it, you can gain respect from him for killing Avaraad.
He respects you for killing him, saying that it was no easy feat.
He then demands that you not tell anyone that he respects you for it lol.

Minor spoilers in that link, but nothing past act 2.
It is simply a very poorly designed "RPG". Still, I had some fun a couple of playthroughs. It pales compared to the first game, which had many poor design choices, but was all in all a pretty good game. In my opinion.
