Mansions of Madness

Mansions of Madness

Just starting the game, with or without expansions?
We are a family and very excited to start MoM. We love board games, but are not pros, and we don't mind losing if it is still fun (e.g. Pandemic). We really like story lines, puzzles, etc. I like slaying things also.

Given the incredible reviews that MoM gets, its nature (between board game and RPG), and knowing my family, I went nuts and purchased the game plus many expansions.

Okay, so now the question: Should I just jump straight into the base game plus expansions for the base scenerios, or just play the base game content and then go back and add expansion content for replay of the base scenerios? For those with expansion packs, given what you now know, what would you recommend for newbies as to how to jump in? In case you are wondering, we have not started yet because some of the packages are going to be gifts soon and I am still waiting for some of the expansions to arrive in the mail.

Including all expansions to the mix from the start adds more variables and boosts replayability.

Thanks! Does adding Streets of Arkham or Sanctum of Twilight add anything to diversify the core scenerios?

All the expansions generally add 1) more monsters that randomly appear, 2) more investigators to play, and 3) occasionally new random map tiles. Map tiles need to be consistent with the scenario, though, so you won't see as much change there.
If you havent played it yet, I reccomend doing it the way I first played the boardgame, set of an entire afternoon/evening,maybe during the easter holidays. Pick a scenario that seems fun and have an adult be the "evil" force in the mansion.

Just enjoy the game, add expansions when the original scenarios are too familiar :happycthulhu:
