Character Builds
I just started this game and I've made an Elf-Mage. I gathered from the internet that the ideal build is 2 Magic 1 Willpower

What spells should I get and is being a Blood Mage worth it?

Also what kind of character do you guys play as? (Build/Mage/Warrior/etc?)

Hmmm I haven't been able to unlock Blood Rage specialization as of now. But I tried the other and well let's say the Spirit Healer is only one which I liked a decent bit. I haven't even reached half way on my mage as of now though, so It's hard for me to comment on a decent mage build :/

But coz I always used Wynne on my Sword & Shield Warrior, I can put down her support mage build I used on Hard to clear the game, if you wish.
Generally it all depends on how good you are at keeping your mage away from melee enemies, specially enemy rouges and beasts!

I'd say if you are doing on Easy / Normal around 45 Magic should be MORE than enough, rest invest in Willpower (basically Mana and mental resistance) and Constitution and take your cunning to 16 or 22 depending on skills, usually it's 16 more than enough to max out on almost all Skills(Crafting etc.).

Its been some time since i played this game. I played as mage it was easy for me on normal diff. i specialized in fire and was doing great damage. Later on i also found that elvish special class (cant remember) which u unlock while in elvish ruins. Plying with mage was great and i will prb take mage for my next replay as well. Btw u dont need to invest all points right away (when u lvl up) u can wait and invest them later or when u see what could be useful

I got the Blood Mage specilization in Soldier's Peak, the add-on that came with the Ultimate Edition. There's a vial on a desk you drink and it automatically unlocks and gives you Blood Mage if you're a mage.

I thought it was excellent for damager characters. If your mage plays a front line, damage-dealing role, get it, it's the best. If he/she's a support character ... not so much, no. Nothing "selfless" about Blood Mages.

Where do you find the vial?

My fav has to be the Human noble warrior. To answer Chris's que about where to find the vial.
It's on the desk in the room just before you get to the ancient Bloob-Mage warden in the Old Wardens Keep. Only available in the DLC of Wardens Keep or part of Ultimate Edition.

I always found the Rogue to be my favorite of the classes. Early on, things can feel difficult, but by late game, you're gold. Also, since you're going to be using the Warden most of the time, you can really take advantage of backstabbing. Wield a pair of daggers, go assassin/duelist, put only enough dex to equip your best dagger (Rose's Thorn?), and then the rest into cunning.

As for blood mage, it really is a nice specialization. If you know you're going to take it and you've unlocked the specialization already, you can forgo Willpower and pump Constitution instead. I never used the Blood Mage's leech heal, but if you've Wynne in the party, she overheals everybody as it is. The real gem is the AoE that paralyzes for a period of time.

thats not the blood mage spec, just 2 bonus spells as part of the dlc that revolve around blood magic. the actual spec is off a desire demon [SPOILERS] in redcliffe as part of the save connor quest. just thought that you should know that thats not the entire spec, as the actual powers are damm handy and powerfull
