Any way to play solo?
I'm so used to playing games in this style where it's just you doing your own thing. Having these companions is really annoying. Will I just have to get used to it?

YEs. You really can't complete the game properly without them... This is NOT a solo game. The companions are necessary...

Not to mention an important part of the 'feel' and 'options' of the game.

Actually, contrary to what the other posters have said, solo runs are absolutely possible. I've never done one myself, but I've seen several videos of nightmare difficulty solo runs on youtube and guides posted on BSN, if you want to check those out. Like if you are playing a section of the game where someone is required to be in your party, you can easily just reposition them to some part of the map away from any combat scenarios, turn off tactics, and click the hold button to make them stay there (only scenarios I can think of are the sections up to Lothering and the mage tower where you cannot remove Wynne unless you decide to fight her). But when you have access to the party selection screen, you can remove all of the companions leaving just your player character.

@op:

Do your own thing, then. You will have to let them tag along, but how much you interact with them, let them influence you, respect their beliefs/ethics/morals/whatever, how friendly/romantic you become with them - it's basically all up to you.

Do your own thing.

You can definitely solo as an arcane warrior (nightmare)- I haven't tried soloing with any other class though. Playing solo is pretty slow going though. It's more enjoyable with a party, complementary skills and the advanced tactics mod- that way you can roll through without pausing

i have soloed this game, i never use companions more then fix thier quest if they have any, i dont like having to micro manging a much of units, in dungeon siege 2 i was pure combat mage, in this i was pure mage, dunno rember what type, but i mostly stick to one. and ive had no problems whatsoever. i do think it makes the games abit harder but its doable no problem and alot of fun.

a solo run is something that really experienced players can do because they know a ton about the game. I've played through the game multiple times but haven't done a solo run myself because I enjoy the party mechanics. but if this is your first time playing then I doubt you'd be able to do it solo. the fights are just too hard for one character of most class builds, and especially someone who hasn't ever played the game before. I'd guess you'd need either mage or warrior to do it, and you'd probably have to ignore a lot of options for building your character to focus on survivability and/or utility skills almost exclusively. that means probably not getting any ranks of coercion, for example.

Your party contains half of the story and lore of this game has to offer. You can just as well play Batman then or something.

I agree, this game kind of sucks because the companions NEED input from the player.. Super annoying and i hate having to pause my video games

I dont understand how people can follow lore in video games like this, players just spit out thousands of random names of kings and provinces and you are supposed to know wtf they are talking about?

It's all about how you approach it. You're not really supposed to know what they are immediatly, nor are they random. Everything fits togtherer, but you did need to hold enough interest in the lore to sit down and be open to learning about world. If you don't enjoy things like lore or don't want to take the time to explore through the hundreds of different entries in the codex, it's not something you can enjoy.

But the love of lore is purley subjectetional and a matter of opinion, so if you don't like it, you don't like it and there's nothing wrong with that either.
