Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Enabeling the dev console
So, yeah...I've pretty much tried any way described on the internet to enable to console. I've downloaded a mod and the only way to add the items provided is via console commands.

I can't get it to open. I even installt the font fix so I could see what it actually says when it's open, but it just doesn't.

I bound the console to pretty much any unused key I could imagine, I used the DAO Mod Manager's option to run it with console, I tried adding launch parameters (-enabledevelopersconsole and -developersconsole) through stream and directly through shortcuts in Windows.

Do you guys know any way that actually works?

Also: I'm using Win8, is that where my problem is?

I tried the xml edit, but the ~ isn't opening the menu, is it bound elsewhere?

It's bound to whatever key you set it to be bound to when you did the xml edit

On the link posted above, in addition to the "Enabling the console" part you need to do the "Accessing the console" part and set a key for it in keybindings.ini

I have set both xml and keybindings.ini. but still no luck, the game freeze, not responding to any mouse click.

Yes that's what happens when you open the console. You can't actually see the console and what you type and the game pauses.

Type a command and hit enter and the game should continue.

There is a mod that will make it visible though: http://dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/1110

or here's the Direct link[www.dragonagenexus.com]

Just place it in \My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\data\

if you are on a nordic keyboard like myself, type SHIFT + ´ + ? and you will see the ? at the very top. = SHIFT ` ? and you can find the ` button right next to the ?. and don't forget to download the mod Monkeyseeker added, all it is is a font that simply lets you SEE the console.

make sure you delete the ? before entering your cheats.

Edit: I mixed up ctrl and shift xD

I have the steam sale Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition now since my old Origin account got hacked. When I played the old version and updated the shortcut, it would start the game automatically. Any shortcut I use the -enabledeveloperconsole on for the Ultimate Edition always brings up the menu where I have to press start. Is there another way to do this since this does not allow for the console to work. The path for my Dragon Age is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition instead of the regular Dragon Age. Does this make a difference?

No it doesn't matter where it is installed. The shortcut method does not work on the Steam version of the Ultimate Edition you need to do the other method of editing a file.

  • Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\data\
  • Open the DAOriginsLauncher.xml (can usually right-click and click edit and it will open in notepad)
  • Find the line
    <condition name="FirstRunCheck" type="FileExist" file="${USERDATA_DIR}\SystemInformation.xml">
  • The line below should be something like this:
    <true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\DAOrigins.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" />
  • add arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole" to it make it read
    <true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\DAOrigins.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" arguments="-enabledeveloperconsole;" autoquit="true" />
  • Save your changes
  • Go to \My Documents\\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings\
  • Open KeyBindings.ini
  • Find the line that starts OpenConsole_0=
  • Change the value after the = sign to the key you want to use to open the console.
    For example: Keyboard::Button_Tilde to use the tilde key (above tab and to the left of 1, though you may have issues if you have a non US-International keyboard layout, you can always use one of the unused function keys, I use F7)
  • Use this mod[dragonage.nexusmods.com] to make the console visible (optional, if you don't use the mod though you can still use the console but you will be unable to see what you type)

Thanks sooooo much. This has been a huge headache for me and I never found this method.

my keybindings.ini doesn't have a line for changing the console key, do i have to enter it manually?

for anyone who had the same issue as me, make sure your opening the game through the launcher, not the .exe
