You need to complete origins in order to be able to play Awakening

At the Main Menu, click New Game. A box should come up asking you to select Origins or Awakening. Choose Awakening. It should then give you the option to import your Origins character. If you have not, it starts you off with a basic character with appropriate equipment and stats for the beginning of Awakening. It is highly suggested to import your Origins character though, of course.

Hope this helps. Have fun!

You may have to activate it on the bioware social network. I just bought this from the steam sale and I had to do that in order to activate awakening. There should be two keys when you load up the game. The second key is used to activate awakening (I think). I had to go to the bioware site and redeem the key there and now awakening works.

I got the same keys upon loading the game, but I did not use them at all. I just went to new game and it gave me the choice between Origins and Awakening.

Right click the game in your Library, click Properties, and then click the DLC tab.
If it lists "Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition DLC CD Key" then you're good. You have everything. In-game, on the main menu, go to the Downloadable Content option, then click the Installed tab. Anything listed there?

no nothing about awakening is in the dlc tab, although i have the ultimate edition dlc. how do I contact steam to fix this?
"edit" alright after diging into my instalation folders i found a folder called redist. In it there was a stupid EA program that is used to "prohibit" 3rd partys from "violating content" I activated the update in the folder now it works. ♥♥♥♥ ea
