I need an OP build.
I have tried to get into this game several times. I have never come close to beating it at all, I always get really burnout around 10 hours in. Now I know some people swear by this game so I figure it's worth seeing to the end, but I have to say the opening is incredibly dull, and I don't care for the combat even a little. Far too slow and dry. So I need a build that ends combat quickly and will allow me to get into the better, deeper parts of the game. I'm willing to play a Mage or Warrior, but I'd rather not be a Rogue the first time through. Anyone have any good builds?

Play on easy. Personally, I'd say archery rogues are the strongest DPS-wise, but if that's not to your taste, Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage would be another strong build. Keep in mind that whatever build you manage to find, it'll always take a couple of levels, and if you get burned out through the origin story, you won't get too far in the game. AW/BM, on your first playthrough, is going to require entry into the Dalish Forest and if I remember correctly, Redcliffe Castle.

If your problem is the slow combat, you might like this mod:

Arcane warrior/blood mage is probably the strongest build, but it might be hard to get on your first playthrough when you still havn't unlocked these specializations...

Otherwise mages are good even without these specializations, BUT a bit "squishy" when leading the party. Of course, you can just select alistar and let him take charge when walking, but that might not feel quite as good from a RP perspective.

Since rogues are out of the picture, I would suggest a dual wielding warrior. Here is a good guide for it: http://social.bioware.com/forum/topic/96/index/1587480

The build depends on your play style. I personally do it as an Arcane Warrior/Shapeshifter Primal, or Reaver/Champion Dual Wield, or a Ranger/Assassin Archery build. I have beaten the game all three times(Once with each race. Elf Mage, Dwarf Rogue, Human Warrior)

blood mage/arcane warrior is the most OP class in the game but its not the quickest. with bm/aw you tank everything while the party wittles down the hp of the enemy.

Hmm well thanks guys, I'll do a Warrior I guess, something simple and easy, I like this game's story a lot and I want to see it through.

Depends on build and equipment. There is nothing stopping you from keep using that staff of yours. But with armor on you can run to the front and wreck havoc with your spells, without caring too much about getting killed.

If you're looking for the highest DPS, I'd say single target is a high cunning dual wield rogue (but it is a lot of auto attacking, which would probably bore you). Caster mage is of course the highest AOE. Stack some +fire damage (best staff in the game has +10% on it) and Inferno clears a whole room in no time, supplemented by the blood wound that keeps the mobs in place

The combat speeds up alot the more you level.

Anway my build was doing bad at the start but it really is getting fleshed out and wrecking ♥♥♥♥ everywhere now.
Main is dualwield and just pretty much a soft tank with dps and hp.
got alistair for pure tank with shield stuffs and his magic resistance to types too
rogue that one dude who tried to assassinate you for dps, but he isnt doing too strong dps so far but still keeping him around to i can have someone to trade between with my dog depending on what i need. (would prefer an archer that goes pure dex tho)
and morrigan for mage, make sure to get atleast heal on her as its good and im going more for entropy skills after getting cone of cold, but i might get blizzard to finiish up cold spells as i have alot of amplifiers on my gear for them.

So pretty much main w/e,tank,dps(ish)/,support,mage for dps/heals

Also my main dualwield dude is berserker for specialty so with blood powers and that other thing to improve crit chance, you can get a sexy attack speed with 30% critchance and lots of extra damage and still take some hits

I went with a 2 hander. Champ/Reaver I think it was (been a long time) and a lot of fun.
May have been Zerker/Reaver .... on of the two.
