Dragon Age 2: Fenris hate, love, like, or what?
(This post/thread has a bunch of Spoilers mostly about Fenris)

Here is something I am curious about - for those who played Dragon Age 2...

What did you think of Fenris?

Did you Love him (romance him)?

Did you like him (enjoyed his banter)|

Did you tolerate him (Did not enjoy his banter but thought he was useful in combat)?

Did you ignore him (Fenris who)?

Did you HATE him (The moaning and the mage hating and the emo feel) ?

-or-

Something else? Please be honest and let us talk about Fenris... what was your feeling on the lad?

--------------------------

As you might think, I did not enjoy Fenris. I downright hated that one specific character to the point that I gave him to his Tevinter Slave Master and his memory is now erased (good) and he is a slave again.

Why would I do such a thing? Was I pure renegade? On Dragon Age Origin I played a Dwarf Noble who started off as blood thirsty and renegade but the stories and his companions moved him to paragon and his experiences eventually taught him to be kind and help people.

In Dragon Age 2, I decided to play a thief and wanted to be greedy - but a Robin Hood type character - anything for money but a kind heart. So any quests rewards or options that gave me money or equipment is what I picked unless it hurt people. However, I met Fenris and he rubbed me the wrong way. He hated mages - okay fair enough. Then he came on to my male Hawke. Fair enough, BioWare was really pushing the same gender relationships but I said, "NO" to Fenris and he started to cry and act EMO.

At one point, I had him in my party and he would stop following me and start to cry and moan. WHAT AN EMO. I remember this one fight where I got over whelmed and I was wondering why do I only have 2 OTHER party members near me. So I paused the fight and found EMO Fenris half a city away crying and moaning. OMG. I had to re-load (i was playing on Nightmare). UGH!

I really disliked the feel of Dragon Age 2, the use of the same maps over and over and over again and again and again. There are many other things I did not like about Dragon Age 2, but I never made it to act 3. Then BioWare created the Dragon Age Keep where we had to build the Tapestry to import to Dragon Age: Inquisition. I finally was able to enter my choices for Dragon Age Origins (and all the DLCs) as well as the parts I played in Dragon Age 2 and the parts I never played.

I never played the part where Fenris meets his (former) Tevinter Slave Master personally. So I spent some time on youtube and found my answer to the Tapestry:

I told Fenris to go back to his Tevinter Slave Master; where he is a slave again and his memory gets wiped. I am now happy! Sure, I do not like slavers. Generally, my Hawke character does not like slavers either... but this is an exception. I disliked (really DISLIKED) Fenris. So much so, that I gave him back to the Tevinter Slave Master! I hope we get to see him broken and slaved in DA:I (or what ever option you had for him).

I liked him, who i REALLY hate, is isabela.
I didn't hate Isabela's personality but I did hate her as a romance option and I could never forgive her for selfishly stealing the qunari bible and throwing all of Kirkwall into chaos and not telling anybody about it FOR YEARS - like how many people died because of that?

That is a horrible thing to do to someone, but Fenris is a horrible person. He's a killer. At least as a slave he won't be on his ridiculous revenge path killing half the world. If enslaving someone saves lives then is it so morally bad?

he looked like an anime character.

he sounded like an anime character.

Also, Hawk's father was a mage and their sister was/is a mage. The guy hates all mages. ♥♥♥♥ that guy.

As far as im concerned that character didnt even exist.

They went for a Sasuke style woobie, probs for the fangirls. The problem is Sasuke isn't a good character either but at least he's one of the better portrayals of an angsty, brooding guy with a dark past. I would feel sorry for Fenris if he wasn't killing people left right and centre, and moaning about how ALL mages are evil which is clearly not true.

Other than his dark past, was there anything remotely likeable or sympathetic about his character? He was simply unpleasant.

That was my problem with DA2's characters: I wouldn't take half of them on my epic fantasy adventure. Isabela, Aveline, Fenris, Anders, even Sebastian would all get left behind.
I didn't like Fenris or anyone else really except the dwarf. Isabella, Fenris, Anders, etc are all disloyal users who moan the entire game. Why on Earth did Bioware make your companions so unlikeable? That and what's with the sudden tide of homosexuality? I felt like my male mage needed to carry pepper spray at all times.
Just barely more likeable than Anders. With emphasis on "barely". Pretty much all DA2 characters were pretty unlikeable though, with the exception of varric. The rest I either hated or simply didnt care for.
