Dragon Age 2: Fenris hate, love, like, or what?
(This post/thread has a bunch of Spoilers mostly about Fenris)

Here is something I am curious about - for those who played Dragon Age 2...

What did you think of Fenris?

Did you Love him (romance him)?

Did you like him (enjoyed his banter)|

Did you tolerate him (Did not enjoy his banter but thought he was useful in combat)?

Did you ignore him (Fenris who)?

Did you HATE him (The moaning and the mage hating and the emo feel) ?

-or-

Something else? Please be honest and let us talk about Fenris... what was your feeling on the lad?

--------------------------

As you might think, I did not enjoy Fenris. I downright hated that one specific character to the point that I gave him to his Tevinter Slave Master and his memory is now erased (good) and he is a slave again.

Why would I do such a thing? Was I pure renegade? On Dragon Age Origin I played a Dwarf Noble who started off as blood thirsty and renegade but the stories and his companions moved him to paragon and his experiences eventually taught him to be kind and help people.

In Dragon Age 2, I decided to play a thief and wanted to be greedy - but a Robin Hood type character - anything for money but a kind heart. So any quests rewards or options that gave me money or equipment is what I picked unless it hurt people. However, I met Fenris and he rubbed me the wrong way. He hated mages - okay fair enough. Then he came on to my male Hawke. Fair enough, BioWare was really pushing the same gender relationships but I said, "NO" to Fenris and he started to cry and act EMO.

At one point, I had him in my party and he would stop following me and start to cry and moan. WHAT AN EMO. I remember this one fight where I got over whelmed and I was wondering why do I only have 2 OTHER party members near me. So I paused the fight and found EMO Fenris half a city away crying and moaning. OMG. I had to re-load (i was playing on Nightmare). UGH!

I really disliked the feel of Dragon Age 2, the use of the same maps over and over and over again and again and again. There are many other things I did not like about Dragon Age 2, but I never made it to act 3. Then BioWare created the Dragon Age Keep where we had to build the Tapestry to import to Dragon Age: Inquisition. I finally was able to enter my choices for Dragon Age Origins (and all the DLCs) as well as the parts I played in Dragon Age 2 and the parts I never played.

I never played the part where Fenris meets his (former) Tevinter Slave Master personally. So I spent some time on youtube and found my answer to the Tapestry:

I told Fenris to go back to his Tevinter Slave Master; where he is a slave again and his memory gets wiped. I am now happy! Sure, I do not like slavers. Generally, my Hawke character does not like slavers either... but this is an exception. I disliked (really DISLIKED) Fenris. So much so, that I gave him back to the Tevinter Slave Master! I hope we get to see him broken and slaved in DA:I (or what ever option you had for him).

He's some emo elf boy to attract the damaged teenage girl audience. no. he was a trope, and entirely unlikable.

Lol ! :claugh: I never experienced Fenris crying or moaning , luckily !

I actually didn`t like DA2 that much, but I finished playing it - and my female Hawke thief romanced Fenris - for me , he was the only ( but not excactly a dream guy !!!! :cfacepalm: ) option - I simply disliked Anders behaviour a tiny inch more. And being female, and not gay, Fenris was the lesser bad for me .
Sigh ! He was a piece of Work !!! , for sure ! But actually, he turned out quiet interesting later, when I chose that option :winkkit:

When that is said - I think I would have enjoyed DA2 a lot more, if I had`nt had so high expectations -
Dragon Age Origins being such a Magnificent game !

When all this is said - I like your playstyle !

Thanks. When I create a character I try to take a pattern... never "ALL GOOD or ALL EVIL or ALL PARAGON or ALL RENEGADE"

"A thief that always accepts money and equipment but acts good"

or

"Starts off as blood thirsty and mostly evil then turns good."

I am not sure how I will play Inquisition. What type of character will i be? maybe be naive and innocent and then turn evil a d blood thirsty at the end? However, that is a different discussion...

And I am not a teenager, and not damaged :claugh:
But I sure can see why you say this - Maybe a damaged teenage girl helped making DA2 ?
Because there sure weren`t any real romance options for someone mature , within their right mind :tgrin:

I earned rivalry from Fenris very easily because I tended to agree with the mages and not slaughter them. He was too traumatized by his experience being tortured for blood magic that he refused to acknowledge that magic could be used to heal and help others. I had to kill him at the end because we disagreed too much. The situation with the Templars and Mages in DA2 reminded me of the Salem witch trials so when Anders complained about being persecuted I defended him. I know most people hated Anders but I didn't. I didn't want the chantry to be blown up but when it happened I thought it would have been the only way for this animosity towards every mage to be stopped. I'm not saying being religious is bad I believe in god, however churches haven't always represented the good and humane thing for people Salem and Ku Klux Klan for example is what can happen if nobody ever stood up to a church and said what you are doing is wrong and can't be tolerated. The chantry for me went too far and seemed more self righteous. In the US we believe innocent until proven guilty and I agree with it you can't just murder people because you're afraid of what they will do. You have to be able to expose the guilt first which is what I tried to do with the mages. I know this post might cause controversy but I'm not trying to start and argument I'm just stating my opinion. So no I didn't like Fenris and ignored him most of the time he was too easily angered.

I actually liked Fenris and kinda felt sorry for him but we did stay at odds most of the time throughout the game as I tended to side with the mages for the most part because my sister was a mage. I even helped him battle his former master and in the aftermath of the Chantry explosion Fenris choose to leave my side for the templars which upset me but I understood. Shockingly, he did rejoin us towards the end which was great. I do agree with everyone that his hatred, complaining and comments about the mages was almost overwhelming at times. On a side note I think his theme music is fantastic...listen to it all the time.

thats what i thought. i never iked him. i did his little quest line but after that i said ♥♥♥♥ you and never used him again. fenris was the only companion i didnt like.

I would have him be around because I needed a warrior, but I really hated him. I had full renegade with him so at the end he left me to join with the Templars. I gladly killed him.

I gave Fenris back to his slave master the first chance I could get, f'k elves.
Moffin Bovin Nov 16, 2014 @ 7:05pm
he looked like an anime character.

he sounded like an anime character.

Also, Hawk's father was a mage and their sister was/is a mage. The guy hates all mages. ♥♥♥♥ that guy.

As far as im concerned that character didnt even exist.

I agree.
There`s no follower I hated, though most of them were annoying at the start.
Most became a lot more nicer as the time passed, it depended on how you treated them.

"Or what"

His character type and story was something I could have loved, but it was shown so badly. I take him around once in a while and since I wanted a m/m romance and didn't want to deal with Anders, I went for Fenris. Really middle of the road about him.
