Whats the order of areas you need to go too?
I assumed it would sort of scale as you went.. but I seem to be wrong as I went to redcliff first resulting in mass packs of enemies slaughtering my party in seconds ,especially this revenant.. no matter how many times I reload it my team cannot possible win this fight. I even tried to level up by making journeys on the map non stop but it seems theres set encounters and after that no more.

So.. where should I be going instead of this? I really don't want to accidently go to the final one your meant to do and just get 1 shot by everything

Any order you want. The enemies scale with the player's level, not with the locations. but yes, Revenants are a b*tch early game when you don't have many spells. When it comes to the Revenant at Castle Redcliffe, depending on the choices you made you can open the gates for reinforcements before taking him on. You cannot go to the final locations this early in the game. Every location that's open to you is open for a reason. Most people tend to do the Circle of Magi and Redcliffe early on but the sequence of locations you go to doesn't really matter.

Hmmm well thats good to know though, guess I should have let them in instead of trying to deal with him myself, hes such a b I imagine thats how they intended that bit to go.

The Dragon Age Origins wiki has an article on "Challenge Scaling" and the ideal order to do quests:

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Challenge_scaling

"Ostagar / Korcari Wilds > Lothering > Circle Tower > Redcliffe Village and Redcliffe Castle > Brecilian Forest > Haven > and then after all this you can hit Denerim or Orzammar in either order you prefer > then The Landsmeet and the rest of the game"

Theres no "final" one, not before you do everything else. The order you choose to do it, is your own.

There are some enemies like revenants, ogres, emissaries, drakes, dragons, etc, that will test you a lot more than normal mobs, but they will always be at your level, they're just that much harder.

If your squad isn't cutting it, then keep improving, find gear, loot, get a healer (you can respec morrigan or do circle tower to get Wynne with you), get higher damage output, get a tougher tank, etc etc.

For several mobs (like for example the random event where you're attacked by a huge pack of wolves) try having an archer than can shoot scattershots. It not only damages all enemies in an area, but also stuns them. or maybe use a 2 handed warrior and have him do two handed sweeps, it does quite a lot of damage and throws all enemies around him on the floor. Or just have both in your party. if difficulty is below nightmare, you can also use mage AOEs, fire, ice or lightining.

You'll do fine.
