Spell Combinations?
Hi! I'm on my second playthrough with this wonderful game. However, I can't seem to find more than one spell combination: petrify + stonefist. I don't want to google all the possible spell combinations but rather discover them on my own, but I don't know where to start or how to think. Would you guys help me, without spoiling any combinations please, guide me in the right direction? Greatly appreciated!

you want it in riddle form or something?

lol read some of the names mate and think... like the *spoiler* spell combo here
glyph of paralyse and glyph of repulsion =paralyse explosion
Basically both these spells are a opposite of each other, 1 makes somebody stop while the other push them..

Thanks, I'll read the names more carefully then. I'll be back if I'm too much of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to understand though :)

that is not even remotely useful information. Reading the names will mean jack squat. Experimentation is the only answer if he doesnt just google them.

actually most combos can be found by reading the names and what they are doing and doing some thinking. I found almost all that way. But I will agree that you probably wont find all this way.

the only ones i know of are when i do happen to randomly do one, the description of that combo in the codex usually describes a couple other ways of setting that same one up.

most combos are spells from the same school (element, dark, healing)

try to mix elements or debuffs etc ;)

Found one more after reading most of the spell descriptions.

I have found them all, and really there is no clear link between them. Except for one, they all make some sense in my opinion(as far as magic goes), however, there are many imaginable spell combinations that are not within the game.

The advice I will give to you is this: Expirement with spells that you think would logically enhance/contradict the power of other spells in-game. Reading the spell descriptions is a good way to find about half of them. Be diverse with your spells; having multiple mages in the group will allow you to effortlessly combine many different spells(this is how I was successful).

The chances of you finding them all in one play through is abismal without the use of multiple mages, as many of the combo spells are higher tier. There is one that requires two tier 4 spells, and a tier 3 spell each from different magic schools entirely. Some of them will not be obvious either, as the reason why they work with one spell over another is very unclear/not logical. The least obvious spell combinations I find are very strong in spell standards, and are also the strongest combinations.

Thank you! I have read some descriptions and it does help indeed. I found some combinations by accident too, however there are more to be found. Perhaps I'll try to get more mages in the group, but so far I've played with the characters I've found most interesting. And try to have tank, dps and healer. Perhaps I've played too many MMOs.

No, thats a great way to do it. That strategy works very well in this game. However, because all classes have a selection of CC and dps, its possible to have funky combinations. The farther past normal difficulty you go, the less viable healing/aoe goes, making "unconventional" party configuration more viable. I just finished a playthrough with a Controller mage(Animate dead/CC), Oghren(Reaver), Leliana(Ranger/some dual wielding), Shale(Dps). Worked well just cuz of the heavy dps/stuns/and summons.

one of the most powerful has to do with sleep.

It will have no friendly fire and control a whole screen of enemies.

Um, keep in mind that we are talking about spell combinations specifically. I don't want to refute you because I don't want to spoil anything. The only one you could be referring to does flat damage, with no side effects, and does relatively little damage at that.

"Spell combinations" in Dragon Age Origins are specific interactions between specific spells which produce an effect that is unique to the interaction. You can find a list of them within your journal.
