Combat Tactics for the Player Character?
Are Combat Tactics that important for the main Player Character (i.e. Aedan Cousland)? I mean, I'll be "in control" of that main character and can think for him, so wouldn't choosing Combat Tactics be a waste for me?

I find its not really that important. Often I will take control of my mage to do some fine control over crowd control or an AOE attack, or my rogue to reposition for backstab and its nice to come back to the main PC and know that with combat tactics the AI has a least used abilites to maximise DPS or popped a healing poultice while you were away. I find the automatic alotment of combat tactics you get with the main character are enough to do that,

I usually set a few vanilla tactics for my main, ie heal pots, attack anyone, etc. Nothing fancy. Just enough it doesn't just stand around and die.

I also use different custom slots for situations where I want to be certain my main is attacking specific target, ie mage, boss, etc.

I agree, you don't really need that much tactics if you control your character yourself. I played a mage and sat some tactics like "use heal pot - hp below 50%; or cast heal - friend's hp are below 50%..." just in case i control another one and he gets hit meanwhile. Tactics are more important for characters you don't control yourself that much i think. Morrigan does well with the setting "enemy's hp below 50% - cast cold embrace" or how the spell is called in english :D i played it in german.

I always diable combat tactics so that I have complete control of my group.
