Try it both ways, the results r oddly minor... It's easier jus to kill him, but I like the fade bit, so I free him.

The main plus of taking this path is you get to punch Isolde, who is arguably the party most responsible for the whole mess.

I gave him to the demon for blood magic. Blood magic was pretty good so I mean - win win for me.
