(SOLVED) Character Creation Issues

I bought the ultimate edition, and for some reason in character creaton I can't select a background for my character, it automatically picks one for me. Is this normal? How do we select the other backgrounds if so? What are the other backgrounds?
Edit: Additionally it seems I can't change the appearance of my eye colour.

Background: Backgrounds for characters are very limited for humans and mages, but elves and dwarves get 2 options each.
Eyes: Turn up your graphics quality.

And no, Its a computer with a monitor attatched to a box. And I don't remember how old it is, but I know I have used this computer for years.

When you say the game picks a background for you do you mean it picks the background on the little character portrait, or do you mean it picks an origin story for you?

If the latter, don't worry. I just started the game and it looks like your race has a TON to do with which origin you have. If you are human you come from a royal family. If you are an elf you start as an elven slave or free elf. If you are a dwarf you are either royalty or an ex-crook. If you choose a mage you are instantly given the Magi origin as the only option.

I don't know about your eye color issue though.

Alright, thanks a lot for providing your system information.

Your graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 220.

Now I want you to follow these steps in order to make sure that your system is up to date:

1.
- Go to

http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/73780

This is the latest stable driver version tested and signed by Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).
Download and install it.

2.
- Go to

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

This is the latest version of DirectX.
Download and install it.

3.
- Exit Steam completely
- Close the game
- Uninstall your current Physx
- Go to this page:

 http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.1220-driver.html

Download and install it.

This is the latest version of PhysX.
PhysX is a physics engine designed by Nvidia and is used by games such as Dragon Age.

4.
- Go to this page:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.0604-legacy-driver.html

Download and install it.

This is its legacy drivers; in other words this is what old games need to use because they were developed earlier and therefore for older versions. This is a one time only install.

I know how it may look but we must first ensure that your system is up to date before analysing game related problems.

Please do these steps even though your problem is solved. This will guarantee a better system performance and health.

if you are picking the mage class there is onely one background story you can use

as for the eye color thing. try increasing the textures a bit as i was having a similer problem and all i did was increas it. then checked the character creator and bam eye colors could be distinguished from one another

I am not sure how to uninstall it or find it.
Additionally I downloaded them all before I remembered I had to uninstall my current Physx (one of them asked me to uninstall so I guess that was it) but I was already installing another at the time...

Yeah I had the same issue with my character having really dark eyes no color difference from the iris. Then I raised the graphic quality to high and was able to see eye color I had my graphic setting to low

It looks like everything installed, but now I can't run the game.

Do you get any error messages?

Do you click on Play and nothing happens?
