I dont like the combat
I dont like how the combat works, its feels a bit to boring to me, however, I am not complaining, its just not my taste. I personally prefer hack and slash games similar to the witcher 3 or skyrim. Thats why i am wondering if the combat is different in both the second and latest games of the series compared to the first game

Give it some time as it may grow on you. That or try a mage character; nothing like freezing a ogre a mere second before it kills you.

i currently playing seems as mage to be more fun than playing as warrior, however, I intend to become arcane warrior since I heard you can become quite powerful that way, but i am unsure what spell to pick, same goes for my companions

Personally, I find DW:O a lot easier than Witcher 2 or 3, because you can always pause and assign commands. DW:O is a bit tricky to begin with, but once you get used to the system it's not too bad. At the moment, I'm playing a mage on normal difficulty, and I find that fine.

Take the Heal spell on your own mage, and also get the companion Wynne as she has the Heal spell and a Mass Heal spell. With those spells and also healing potions, it's much easier to keep your party alive. There is some micromanagement needed, however, unless you assign appropriate tactics to each companion.

You can play arcane warrior in at least two different ways. One way is to take just the first Arcane Warrior spell, so that you can wear any sort of armour, but you still fight as a spellcaster. Another way is to pick up the other Arcane Warrior spells and play as a hybrid melee/spellcaster. I prefer the first option, as it doesn't interfere with your ability to cast spells.

do i need to put any points into dexterity if I wanna become a melee arcane warrior. I keep missing a lot

Don't put points into dexterity if you are a mage. Arcane warrior gives you a bonus to hit and damage based on your spellpower stat. You can increase your spell power by leveling up your magic stat. This game like Knights of the old republic and baldur's gate focus on strategic combat over hack and slash. The auto attack you mentioned is something that was in the older games as well.

I am glad that dragon age 2 doesnt have autoatack, never liked autoattack, though the witcher 1 had also autoattack buyt a bit more innovating. by putting point into magic i will miss less as I understand. Does it matter if I use normal weapons or do I need special swords

You can use any weapon that requires strength to be used since arcane warriors replace that requirement with magic. Weapons that require dexterity could work, but you would need to put points into dexterity. Although there are certain weapon combinations that end up working really well for arcane warriors. As for Dragon Age 2, the combat is ok. However it slightly suffers from a sort of grindy style of gameplay that is a lot worse from what I've seen in Dragon Age Inquisition. If you don't get what I'm talking about, turn on nightmare difficulty in Dragon Age 2. Getting certain types of equipment may help, but leveling up or doing a certain area later will solve most difficulty challenges. In Baldur's gate-Dragon Age Origins, level mattered a little bit but you could still do challenging quests with no problem.

I really like the combat myself, though this comes from growing up playing Baldur's Gate. Since there are alot of hack 'in slash games about, it's a refreshing change in this day and age to have a turn-based stragaty combat where you imput commands instead of just pressing a button for combos alot.
That's actually why I never played DA 2. Played the demo for five minutes and the combat put me off. Yeah, I understand it has been changed and improved as people said, but that hacky slashy thing really put me off big time.
