Found a Fix for the game not launching in 2024
First, I did EVERYTHING, VERY SLOWLY, STEP BY STEP from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRopnU5efZY

And it didn't worked. Until I came across this comment there: "For anyone having the issue where the Configure window immediately closes, follow all the steps in the video and only launch the game directly from the "daorigins.exe" file. For some reason, the game fails to gather my system information which was causing all the issues, so you have to just circumvent the configure screen entirely."

So, I open my This computer\[drive letter]\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\bin_ship and i launced drectly with the "daorigins".

IT WORKS. <3

I'm running the game on a windows 10 pro, i9-13900k and a gtc 1070ti fyi.

I hope it helps someone.

EDIT: and, if you want to click "play" on steam and the game ALWAYS to open the exe directly instead of double clicking the exe every time, try this:
- Right Click on your game
- Go to Properties
- Set Launch Options...
- Enter this exact command below

"FULL PATH TO GAME\daorigins.exe" %command%

Example: "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\bin_ship\daorigins.exe" %command%

And dont forget to use the " in the path.

And, if you are getting random crashes:
Launch Dragon Age: Origins

- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open your Task Manager (if it doesn't work immediately, try using Alt+Tab to go to another active window)
- Find ' DAOrigins.exe ' in the list (if you are using Windows 8, go to your Details tab to see it)
- Right click on it
- Choose 'Set affinity'
- Leave only one of your cores ticked and untick the rest of them
- Click Ok .
- You will have to do this each time you launch the game.

I'm running the game on full screen and with max graphics. Problem solved.

I had the games in origin and decided to buy all of them in a sale on Steam to prep for Veilguard, starting with Origins, and for my surprise it didn't work. (I also know that DA2 have a similar problem as well lol). A very modern computer often have problems with old games. I'm happy this helped you. No matter how dated the graphics are, it's my favorite franchise and it deserves be played. ❤️

You'll probably also want the 4GB patch for this game, as older games tend to crash without them when they run out of memory. The first dropbox link in this guide has it pre-patched and ready to go. Replace your daorgins.exe with the downloaded one.

As for the above solution to launch the game, there is a simpler way. Just make a shortcut of the .exe on your desktop.

The 4 gb patch is just one step of the solution and is also covered in the video, on my original first post. ;)

To be fair... I didn't watch the video.
Though I have had no Issues with the single file I downloaded from that guide, so I just provided a simpler option. Same with being able to launch it, a shortcut on the desktop works equally as well as changing the launch option on Steam.

I downloaded LAA and installed it in my game files. My question is will it still update dragons keep with my play through and carry the storyline and world building to DA:2?

Good question. I didn't reach DA2 yet. I read that DA2 has a similar issue about game not working on new computers as well, so there's must bea similar fix out there.
