Still contant crashing in 2025 (almost)
Thought I would try another DAO play through on my new rig. spent a fortune building this thing but DAO still crashes constantly on it. I have tried this on 3 different rigs now but every one the same. I'm amazed they never addressed this

You need to get 4gb patch
Razorblade Nov 29, 2024 @ 11:33am
Just replace your exe with the pre-patched exe. Works perfectly.

But why haven't the devs fixed this? I hate having to fix games by downloading stuff at my own risk. Just unacceptable.

Most, if not all that did the programming for DA:0 are long gone and nu-bioware don't have the capacity to learn their own in house engine. This is also the same nu-bioware that lost the source code for ME1 Pinnacle Station DLC.

I had the same problem. It's mostly cuz were using bigger resolutions than when the game came out so its using more. It probably isnt even built for multi core. The 4gb patch helped.

I had the same crashing issues and got it to work without the patch by putting the graphics settings on the medium preset.

What they should do is release the DAO source code to the community. Modders and fans would have this running flawlessly, and fix all the bugs in a month or two.

If you arent going to support or do anything with a game for 15+ years just release the code. its not gonna sell much at that point

What 4GB patch are people referring to? Where do you download this patch?

Why haven't the Devs spent time fixing a game that is 14 years old? It isn't worth spending the time or money. What is the plan? Should they do a check up on the game every two years to see if it still running smoothly on the latest hardware and OS? It is fine to be upset but that all seems a bit unrealistic.

Lol sure if you don't have any thing else to work on why not? Because there is no money in it. 14 years down the road any investment in a game is pretty much a waste. A game that is a single player stand alone experience receiving support beyond the first year is rare and seems wasteful when you could be making the next thing to attempt to generate millions of dollars in revenue.

That is just my laymen revenue concept of it. I don't know the coding part or the logistics of it at all.

What would it take for someone to bring a game this old up to spec across various CPUs and GPUs and OSs? Not to mention how long would it take them and how much are you going to pay this person to work on it?

You mean like updating the exe for 4gb which takes 1 minute to do?

Yeah remember I opened with the Devs don't see it as worth their time/money or whoever owns the bits and bobs doesn't see it as worth the time/money, so they haven't. Then modders who were more interested and willing came up with a solution.

actually taking 1min to update game would increase steam sales. saying its not worth their time is just a gamers excuse. players let companies abandon games and thats a common problem. they profit off skins, dlc, and etc.

the thing is. im only here because i came to find a solution to the crashes. and found it.

why are you guys here? looking to reply with non solutions to his problem of crashes and just saying it doesnt matter.

looking to argue and for attention in a decade old game discussions?
