Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Playing DAO and DA2 with Controller
Hey all. I recently decided to play through the series again on an Asus ROG Ally. Wanted to help others also wanting to play the games with controller and on handheld comfortably.

The best way IMO is getting Xbox Gamepass and playing both games through Cloud Gaming. Requirement: good internet speed and connection.

If you’re looking for achievements for both games, you’ll have them through Xbox Live. Which of course will also be there on your Xbox profile if you have an Xbox console or plan to get one in the future. I know some people on here, like me, want Steam achievements. I don’t think they’ll happen but IMO the Xbox Live ones are the next best thing.

And once you’re done playing through Origins, you’ll be able to “sync” your save file using the Xbox overlay itself (essentially download your save file to your system from the cloud), and import it easily to DA2, also on Cloud. I tested this and it works.

One issue is the DLC. Yes, you’ll have to buy it separately. But the games aren’t the Sims 3/4. You won’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to get all the DLC, and they aren’t $30+ each either like modern games. Even if you buy it all full price and not on sale. To me, it’s worth it to play the games with native controller support and comfortably anywhere. The Dragon Age series is even more worth it to me considering the story and lore and how the games tie into each other.

For those worried about graphics or streaming quality: look up the free Clarity Boost option built in to the Microsoft Edge browser. Launch the game through the browser, and the clarity boost option is automatically available through the Xbox overlay. Select it, and as long as you have good internet speed, the games play really well. I feel like I have them downloaded. And this is coming from someone who highly dislikes playing any game at 30fps and will avoid it unless I absolutely love the game and don’t have other options.

Hope this helps other people like me.

Can you confirm that you're playing it with the ally as a handheld? If so, how did you use the controls? I'm new to using an ally and I can't seem to get my head around it working. Do you just make custom key mapping?

It's a lot of sacrifice just to play with a controller. There are so many fixes, textures, and other mods this game now comes with on PC.
