Windows 7/10/11 random crash fix
I post it here so more people can find it with google / steam search:

To be able to play DA:O on newer windows systems without crashes you need to replace and update the exe. With that you can play on max details, no other work arounds needed. I had used that kind of fix over the past several years i think starting withh win7 when the problem occured:

- download exe from nexus mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/5989
- put the exe in the game folder with another name like daoriginsfixed.exe in game folder: <steam folder>\steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\bin_ship\DAOrigins.exe and make a shortcut on the desktop (steam overwrotes it otherwise during a file validation!)
- download 4gb patcher: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/
- start patcher and chose the daoriginsfixed.exe
- start game (doesn't need steam launcher anymore, another pro)

that patch only allows the game to access a tad over 3.2gb of pc memory. It is not the cause of the crashes.

Game crashes are due to your GPU settings. This game was only designed to play on 800 x 600 resolutions. last updates raised that to 1280 x 1024, anything after that, can and will cause crashes in the game. Today's GPU and screen settings are just not compatible with the game.

I have over 1,300 hours in this game and over 22 finished games, using 5 different pc setups. I use over 73+ mods in the game, and it works with the correct GPU settings.

This game deserves a major engine update for today's pc's and GPU's.

My reso 1920 x 1080,full high graphic setting
not a single crash after changing the exe +little config with audio
This game run far better than la noire or gothic 1

1920 x 1080 is also what I play the game on, and seems to play fine on my oldest pc rig.

Glad it works for you also.

Ok then that's another crash fix, lower graphic settings + resolution. Or just allow the game more ram to use with the fixed exe and enjoy the game on 1920x1080 (it also allows 2540x1440 but then the text is way to small).

From my current playthrough on 1920x1080 / max settings / win11 i had about 3-4 crashes in the prolog area in 1 hr, after replacing+updating the exe i had 1 crash after completing redcliffe+mage tower. All in all stable enoughl.
