Crash after pressing resume game
Everytime I press "Resume game" or any other way to actually play the game, it loads for a bit then crashes. I have been playing the game fine for a while then decided to get a mod (don't know if its relevant to which mod I downloaded, but it's the Character Talent Respec mod) then it crashed while having it installed, so I uninstalled it but now I can't play at all.
Any tips? Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I tried starting a new game and it loaded fine, must be something with my recent game that is bugged from the recent mod I tried to apply. Trying to reload a previous save from my main character progression!

EDIT 2: An earlier load point worked perfectly and even worked with the mod, no idea why it would crash then work from another save point, maybe something with the area I was in, either way hope this saves someone else some time somehow!

EDIT 3: Nevermind, I came back to the same place I was and it started crashing. I'm at the Market District in Denerim any known fixes?

EDIT 4: No idea if anyone is actually reading this, anyways, disabling Improved Atmosphere made it work again but some people are walking around in underwear, ill just have to deal with it.

Cheers!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience.

Improved Atmosphere mod has too many bugs and causes too many crashes. It is best to avoid it.

This is weird, but I've got the same problem. The thing is, although I have a few minor mods installed, my problem with the crashes started appearing out of nowhere. I hadn't added any mods or changed anything.
I'm currently in the process of reinstalling it, but if it still happens on my latest save, I will load an earlier one and maybe avoid saving in the Denerim Market - because I *think* that's where my recent save is. But I don't know how plausible it is that this location would cause crashing issues, 'cause surely more people would've reported the same issue then. Oh well. Glad you managed to fix it, anyway :) even if your world is now filled with lots of semi-exhibitionists.

Edit: I do know that I've loaded a save from the marketplace before without crashes, so even if there's something about that area, at least it won't happen all the time.

Will try myself when able, can you confirm if it is still viable?

Hi Canondwarf, this is ZDuke17, and I will try to help you the best I can. Although you have said that Improved Atmospheres was the problem, I'd like to offer 2 suggestions that may allow you to run all of which you have disabled or uninstalled or change of resolution.

1. Install the LAA Patch for Dragon Age: Origins. The patch allows the game to use more memory/RAM compared to the low amount by default. This ensures better stability/performance. I reccommand you just installing the pre-patched exe file, but if you wish to do it manually, you sure can.

2. The affinity fix for Dragon Age: Origins, a fix meant to provide better stability/performance with modern day cpus. Originally, the game was designed for lower core count cpus, the fix tells the game to use only 1 core from the cpu. Resulting in better stability/performance for the game overall. The following link will leads to a guide meant to fix various issues with Dragon Age: Origins. Skim the guide to the section labeled "Frequent crashes", and follow the directions.

Doing both these suggestions ensures is recommanded, as it will ensure the game will be performing 100% without worry of crashing. A final thing to consider would be to read about compatibility for Improved Atmosphere and installation instructions in detail to ensure it is being installed properly. I have Improved Atmosphere and have no issues of any kind. If you'd like, I will personally walk you through my install method, and see if that would help even more.

I loaded an earlier save and then once it loaded i loaded the latest save that was crashing and it worked... hopefully it works for you

Vulcanus8's workaround seems to work. For those looking for a full solution, continue reading.

This appears to be a RAM issue. The original version of the game only allows for max RAM usage of 2GB. If any mods are installed (even small/minor ones), that limit may be exceeded and cause crashing when loading, missing textures, or more.

There is a mod that is available here[ntcore.com] that increases the RAM limit to 4GB.
