Reason: Sometimes steam misses these or doesn't run them properly during setup.
I ran DXSetup and it exited without any issues.
I ran physx and it uninstalled the software. I ran it again to install the software. I like that toggly simplicity.
I was curious since physx is for NVIDIA and I'm running an AMD Radeon TX 6800. Is there an equivalent physx package for the Radeon?
I then ran the vcredist_x86.exe.
I then started the game and got the same error:
Program: X:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\comm...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact...
When you did the patched installation of the LAA Patch did you replace the old exe with the one you got from the guide? Just curious, I had a other fella recently be unsure whether or not to actually replace the old exe deleting it in the process.
Besides all that, here are some other things you can try:
1. Make sure a service like OneDrive isn't constantly syncing or backing up your documents folder.
Reason: This can disturb or prevent the game from making and editing files in the Dragon Age folder located in your documents that are needed to run the game.
2. Try going to your documents > BioWare > Dragon Age folder and create a blank txt file. Next open this new text file in notepad or other text editor and go to "File" and "Save As" and select "All Files" in "Save as Type" box and give it the file name "systeminformation.xml" without the quotes.
Reason: Sometimes there is a odd glitch where this file has problems generating properly or at all when you first click play/config. This causes the game to crash due to not being able to read/detect/write info the game needs to before starting.
3. Go into your start menu, and click "Settings". Once the window for "Settings" appears, type "Graphics" if on windows 11 in the "Find a setting" text box, and click the result "Graphic Settings" or "Graphics". Once you are in the window of "Graphic Settings", click the "Browse" if the drop box above "Browse" is labeled "Desktop app", and locate "DAOrigins.exe" in your game install folder/bin_ship. You will see the game now listed below "Browse" where you can also find and click "Options" alongside it. Once the pop-up called "Graphics preference" appears, click on "High performance" and click "Save".
Reason: Despite having your GPU detected by the game it may not actually use it. This ends up making the game not be able to run properly or at all. This forces the game to make use of your device's GPU and correct the issue.
Re: "patched installation of the LAA Patch": yes, I renamed the DAOrigins.exe to "DAOrigins - Original.exe", then dropped the new executable in the same directory and made sure the "permissions" (Windows Security settings). were the same for both files.
I followed your instructions so it exists in the Dragon Age folder. There are 2 other .xml files in the Settings folder (which is why I asked).
I added the SYSTEM and Administrators accounts with full access to the Security tab for this new file.
The file exists and its empty.
The program started all the way up and reminded me to sign into my EA/Bioware account.
So, Fictus22, thank you. I appreciate all of the help you gave me to get the game to start.
Happy gaming yourself!
