Game Crashes after First Rage Demon
Hi! This may be a question with an obvious answer but I thought I'd ask. I've tried pretty much every fix I could find in these forums to no avail (checked Windows updates, lowered in-game graphics settings, checked for any graphics updates, reinstalled game, verified integrity of files, set the affinity to only one core (CPU 1), downloaded the LAA files patch, forced DirectX 9, turned off the music, turned off DEP and Vsync, run in compatibility mode (Windows 8)... and that's all I can remember right now). When I played in windowed mode it progressed a bit farther, to the first couple dialogue options in the Circle tower (usually up to when the man says he didn't know I had disappeared), before it crashed.

My game has run really smoothly with no issues at all, until I complete the first origin quest in the Fade (playing as a human Mage); after the Pride demon disappears the game moves quickly to the next scene but stops abruptly and crashes right after a man starts to walk across the frame (I'm presuming back in the Circle tower). I've checked that my laptop has the specifications to run the game and everything is good except for my graphics, specifically the video driver. It's the only thing that doesn't fit, as I have Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics.

Does this explain why the game keeps crashing at this point or should I keep trying? I haven't tried some other fixes I've seen. Should I try these out or is my video driver the culprit? Is there anything I can do for that?

Thanks! :)

yea it seems to have crashing problems now , I crash every time right at the grey warden bridge and nothing seems to fix it, if I make a new character it will work , but then it will find other places to crash and it wont stop crashing. I played this game before just like 2 years ago , this never happen before so who knows, maybe the EA new app is making it crash

I've been playing it directly through Steam, is there another way to play it (preferably with the same character/without repurchasing)?

The Grey Warden Bridge is where crashing starts with me too, when you have to go to lighthouse/tower before the battle starts.

It's a shame that the only stable way to play this amazing game is the Xbox 360 version -- I just started playing it on my Series X after giving up on PC. It's ugly in comparison but at least it works. Please post here if anyone finds a fix.

Don't buy the steam version, buy it in GOG and apply the 4gb patch. Should fix most issues and crashes.

Just read about a possible fix for random crashes -- After you open DAorigins, open task manager and set affinity to cpu 1 to force it to only use one of your CPU cores.

Never could get the steam version to even launch but this fix works great so far with EA version -- a few hours playtime and no crash. You just have to do it every time you launch the game

Unfortunately, I've already tried that (even experimented with different cores) and it still crashes! My crashes aren't random, which I think points to a different issue. I know I saw somewhere that there's something you can type into the program code to avoid changing the affinity every time you play. I can't find it again but just letting you know that's out there!

Just want to make sure before I shell out $20 for a game I already have - is my video drive the main issue here? Or can I get that game with a reasonable hope that the patch (or other fixes) will solve my issue?

Update: I uninstalled the Steam version and got the GOG game. It saved my progress so I didn't have to replay, but it still crashed in the same place even after installing the 4 GB patch. I'm chalking this up to a lost cause, unfortunately. Still open to solutions, of course.

do you have any mods installed? if yes, remove them.
or did you have some mods in the past which should be long gone? maybe they left some files when they were removed and now cause the issue. like a texture mod or something.

you can also try deactivating the "story screenshot" feature thingy that takes a picture during story related events (see options -> online). i checked my own mage origin game and a screenshot indeed happens in the dialogue of your crash. maybe that feature is related?

In addition to what Maximus said you could also try disabling auto-saves temporarily, it never happened with me but i know some people had issues with that in very specific scenes. If it works you can re-enable later after you get past the crashing point.
