Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Crashes on New Character
Hey guys need some help.

before i begin let me say i have a intel 12700h cpu an rtx 3070ti 16 gb of ram and 1tb of nvme drive. i have updated my windows my gpu drivers and everything. ive tried running this game in windowed and full screen. ive tried lower resolutions on both. ive tried the direct x stuff the physX stuff. ive tried verifying the integrity of files in steam.

The game starts up just fine. i have all DLC listed in the DLC list so thats all good. I get to character creation no problem. I design my character nothing is lagging etc. The moment i hit play when done creating? 1 second into loading it stutters then crashes.

Now for more contect in the config option through the launcher, in the doisplay section, it says my RTX 3070ti doesnt exist. like its there...but it says "unknown monitor" doesnt list the vram when its selection etc. ALL of my other games ranigng from World of warcraft, to the crew 2 to onster hunter world to skyrim with 150GB of mods work just fine and dandy.

I'm at such a loss of wtf im supposed to do to get this game to work

if anyone has the solve please HELP

Here are a few things you can try if your interested.

1. Make sure a service like OneDrive isn't constantly syncing or backing up your documents folder. Try and see if this corrects your issue before continuing down.

Reason: This can disturb or prevent the game from making and editing files in the Dragon Age folder located in your documents that are needed to run the game.

2. Go into your start menu, and click "PC Settings". Once the window for "PC Settings" or "Windows Settings" appears, type "Graphic Settings" in the "Find a setting" text box, and click the result "Graphic Settings". Once you are in the window of "Graphic Settings", click the "Browse" if the drop box above "Browse" is labeled "Desktop app", and locate "DAOrigins.exe" in your game install folder/bin_ship. You will see the game now listed below "Browse" where you can also find and click "Options" alongside it. Once the pop-up called "Graphics preference" appears, click on "High performance" and click "Save". Try and see if this corrects your issue before continuing down.

Reason: Whether your GPU is detected by the game or not it may not actually use it. This ends up making the game not be able to run properly or at all. This forces the game to make use of your device's GPU and correct the issue.

3. Try lowering your graphics/texture setting to Medium or lower. Try and see if this corrects your issue before continuing down.

Reason: The game was originally designed for the max settings to be Medium and was not optimized properly for anything beyond that found in the present version.

4a. Follow along with this other Steam guide below with how to apply the 4GB patch to a Steam copy of the game.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=233222451

Note: If this doesn't work for you, try 4b.

4b. Go to site in the link below and follow along with it's "modding video step-by-step tutorial for DA:O" from the beginning to the 4GB Patch. The tutorial gives visual instructions that some people may appreciate.

https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/5989

Reason: The game still is limited to using 1 - 2 GB of RAM since it was originally released. Due to newer graphical settings, DLC and various tweaks found in the present version the game requires more RAM than it was designed. The methods shown in the tutorials are the correct ways to apply the 4GB patch on Steam yourself.

Note: The reason either of these methods of applying the 4gb patch to game has to be done in the Steam copy of the game can be explained in the post linked below.

5. Either verify or get the game through the EA App.

Reason: This is only if nothing seems to work on the Steam copy of the game.

Note: Apply the 4GB patch after doing so by simply using the 4GB patch tool discussed in 4A and 4B.

6: Get the game through GOG

Reason: Only if nothing works for the Steam copy of the game and if you don't want to use the EA App.

Note: Apply the 4GB patch after doing so like you would in 5.

same here. I filed a refund request. I'll try purchasing it directly from EA Games... Dragon Age Origins is, along with Skyrim, the best RPG game I've ever played.
