The Harvester sucks, just use immortality
this combat sucks in this game, and the fact that you have to use magic for this boss is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid.
SORRY I DIDNT PICK A MAGE 30 IN-GAME HOURS AGO WHEN I MADE THIS CHARACTER
All he does is throw his fat belly at you and summon goofy skeletons.

Yeah "Use Ranged attacks" Yeah no.
I was on hard, I could have kicked its ass on normal.

um....you do keep a mage in your party right? remember, your companions in your group are there to fill what you can not fill. bring morigan with you and make sure to bring wynne with you on that fight. problem solved. oh and make sure you are using tactics correctly.

It can certainly be handeled on hard (i did it with my warrior dual weild) and you don't need to use magic to beat it at all.
That being said, Golems is supposed to be an insanely hard DLC, you have to have an extremely well built character to handle it on anything above normal.

The harvester is in the golems of amgorak dlc. You don't have any of the party members from the base game. You get a warrior, a ranged rogue, and a golem who has limited healing spells. If your character isn't a mage, you don't get one for the DLC (which is a massive oversight)

Exactly, it's a massive oversight.

Also, golems as a DLC isn't hard except for the Harvester.
The revenants, darkspawn and other enemies are NOT hard at all.
I only died to the harvester and when I tried to create a mage to fill in for my dual wielding warrior.

I killed the harvester twice on nightmare with a very first mage I had (import from Origins) and a rogue (Awakening). The mage was difficult, the rogue was ok (difficult as well, but very short thanks to high dps).
If I recall correctly, I have a warrior with which I finished origins with no DLC items or content done, just to see how it actually plays. I might try the harvester with this character just for the fun:)

Edit: No problem, got it on second try. The golems in the green switch room were actually more difficult (needed 4 attempts). I used only items I was wearing on my main and the pots I found in the instance. The character was a dalish elf warrior (sword and shield). Again, it was on nightmare. This time I actually checked how the fight mechanics work:)

I killed the Harvester on nightmare with a rogue I brought over from awakening. Legion of the Dead Scout Specialization. I tanked the Harvester and its boss level minions. I was running very low on stamina draughts when it finally died.

it makes sense poke them with the pointy thing shouldnt have the impact of raining magic hellfire and turning reality itself on your foes.
