I can't remember beating Gaxkang but I believe my strategy involved being a decent level with decent gear and attacking him until it died.
BG2 got censored in my initial post... not sure why.
Something I did notice during the fight. It seems like all healing effects were reduced significantly. And wynes healing aura seems to deactivate right after its activated. Not sure why.
Something else I noticed, I have allistair use his templar powers to cancel out sustained effects. But no matter what I do, healing items are reduced, healing powers are reduces, and that healing aura seems to be canceled out by something.
Can I do anything about this? Can I paralyze him, or freeze him or something? I'd like to have a full party, but I can't recruit ogrehn with this guy alive.
Probably the best way is to burn his mana and go on from there. Freezing from cone of cold should work too. Using some potions to boost defenses definitely helps as well.
I haven't tried the fight with the golem yet. He always came off as pretty invincible. This might be a good time to try using sten as well. Haven't had a reason to try him in a fight yet.
What Level are you and what Difficulty are you playing on?
And, not that it should matter (but it does to some), I'm playing the gog release of this game.
Edit: hokay, so replacing leliana with shale didn't do anything. I didn't even lower his health bar once. *sigh*
But I can come back at 20. I won't get to know ohgren this run through. Ah well.
Dont you even need to meet Oghren before you can fight him, as one of the blood vials is in deep roads?
And thats the way the quest works. Something follows an adventurer (who takes up the quest) around, stopping would be alies from helping them. Then, once they find what its looking for, it strikes and kills them. So, when I started this quest, and I didn't meet ohgren prior, he immedieatly starts saying how I talked with one of the nobles, and how I could sod off and run back to my master.
I have a save from just before that, so I could reload, talk to him first, then take up the quest. Which is what I might do, if the general consensus is that I should come back and lvl 20.
You didn't say the difficulty.
I went in there, with the standard level up and hit him until he dies strategy.
Did this at the endish of my campaign just before the landsmeet. Took Alistair, Wynn, Lelianna and a fighter warden (dwarf noble. templar/Beserker) warden was 24 or 25. rest of the party one level behind him. (elfroots)
seems to have low saves vs paralysis as my glyph of paralysis hit him both times, not for very long stun maybe 6 seconds
combine it with a regular paralysis and maybe stasis on him to help with your cooldowns.
he qualifies as undead I believe? As such the topsider's blade with cold iron runes or paralyze runes would seem to be your best bet. lightning then fire would be secondary choices.
Had no issues killing him with my team.
He does switch between melee/mage form but you can freeze or paralyse him, having some cold resistance helps as well.
had haste on and telekenetic weapons. was level 25. sword and board, he crumpled like a empty cardboard box.
yeah the cold spells kinda threatened me. but I was dwarf templar, and had 80% magic resistance. you want to use some greater cold balms to pump your cold resistance. by all means do so.
I just stabbed him until he died.
I think I was using a starsword and alistair was using the big axe you buy from the dwarf in camp. But I'd switch him to the topsider's blade
