It sounds like a bug, I checked his wares & it was there. You might need to use a previous save or trying travelling around the map then coming back which resets his inventory.

It doesn't apper if you have already unlocked the specialization on another character i started off a mage to unlocke blood mage and my dwarf noble coulda had a morrigan as a blood mage with that deal being the only way to unlocke that specialization only being able to be done as a mage warden.

I just exited game (DA:O Ultimate) after completing Lothering --> Mage Tower --> camping after Tower. The dwarves in camp had the Ranger manual. Current party is Mage (PC) + Alister + Morrigan + Wynne.

Resurrecting this thread.

Manual is missing from his inventory for me too.

Thus far, rolling back to a previous save has *not* corrected the problem.

Is this a change with the Ultimate Edition? Because upon hitting lvl 7, I have access to all 4 specializations, with one point to spend. Putting the point into any of them gives *immediate* access to their talent trees. No finding books or learning from NPCs seems to be required. If that's a bug, it's a convenient one.

Specializations remain unlocked across all playthroughs. Not a bug.

But...but...I've never unlocked them initially, and this is my first playthrough. I just installed the game a few days ago and fumblefarted around restarting in Ostagar over and over while I decided which race/class combo I liked best. I also let my kid play the intro and Ostagar up to the tower a few times (just explaining how I can show so many hours played and so little progress, lol).

So...I've *never* read the ranger book, and *never* talked to any NPC to unlock anything, but specializations are all still unlocked. I mean...I'm not complaining, it's just odd.

Sorry, I took this to mean you'd played the standard game before. In that case, I don't know why that's happening for you.

I haven't figured it out. I found an old reddit post that said if you buy the ranger book and unlock ranger skills, then save, then roll back to another save where you haven't bought the book, that specific skill will still be available/unlocked.

I haven't found anything to explain why the others are unlocked for me. Not gonna worry about it, but it's amusing to be an assassin before ever meeting Zevran.
