What resolution am I supposed to play this game in?
I have a 4k monitor. Playing the game at the resolution makes the UI and text too small to actually play the game. Downloaded UI scaling mod and it was nothing but a colossal headache. Couldn't even get the configuration window to enlarge large enough to properly configure.

Lowered in-game resolution to 1920x1080, which looks fine, but the action bar is cut in half with only the top half showing at the bottom of my screen. It's like the game doesn't want to run in 16:9 aspect ratio, as choosing 16:10 aspect ratio is the only way I can get the damn action bar on the screen. But then everything's blurry.

I played this game 10 years ago and had absolutely none of these problems.

When did trying to play games in a resolution lower than your screen's native resolution start causing all these headaches? I am *constantly* having problems with modern and now older games trying to change resolution. It's maddening.

I've been a PC gamer since the mid 90s. I play a lot of text heavy RPGs, so I was always, ALWAYS lowering the resolution on games to something lower than the monitor's native, and never, ever, EVER had issues. Never a blurry screen, never a black screen.

Hell, I played this game in 800x600 (because the fonts were too small) back in 2012 on a 1900x1200 monitor. Not even the same aspect ratio, and I had zero problems.

Modern PC gaming makes me want to go back to console gaming.

I guess I'll just wait until I have enough money to downgrade my monitor to a 1080p screen so this ♥♥♥♥ will run happily at that resolution.

Or until Beamdog fixes it.

BS.

Beamdog won't be fixing anything more than a decade later.

Check the various solutions that have been posted over 100xs something might help.

Otherwise ya its 1 the risky downsides to tech improving as tech can't predict and prepare for future tech.
I mean you say u miss console buts its same idea with only last couple gens having some backwards capability and even then its not like it directly compatible and its only with its own console.
I mean be awesome if I could play pokemon stadium 64 on xbox 1 but not happening, least on pc with a emul it maybe is.

Just be glad you maybe didn't get a Dell Computer way back then, that thing apparently hated gaming and would refuse countless games outright without fixes (especially for the time where posting fixes etc... was less common).

If anyone is still looking at this thread for insight, hopefully this helps. 1768 x 992 resolution seems to adapt best to newer set ups.

Your in luck bro I got you with the playing on 4k without straining your eyesight starter pack. Not only will you be able to actually read and play properly you can remain on 4k.

FtG UI Mod - More Readable Fonts and UI[www.nexusmods.com] Install this with the DAO updater tool and you'll know when its good because the game will treat it as a dlc and you just have to make sure it is enabled in game. This will make the subtitles + selections larger.

Nathanael's 4K Resolution Mod[www.nexusmods.com]
This basically enlarges every other aspect of the UI since the previous mod only works for font/dialogue related stuff. I installed with NMM so it should work with whatever MM you use for DAO.

Mouse Cursors for 4k DAO[www.nexusmods.com]
And heres a little Gravy. It blows up the mouse cursor to different sizes. I think im using the 96 option currently as the size up was too much for me and this just increases the size so its not going to look any better strictly visiblity purposes. This I installed manually by overriding the files.

With those 3 4k shouldn't be a problem its what I am using right now.
