Duncan Justifying Anything
I have played this game so many times over the years, and I have never been able to disappoint Duncan. I just helped a blood mage escape and told Irving I was proud of my decision and Duncan be like "It is a strong willed person to sacrifice their integrity for a friend" or something like that.

Is there anything this man will not be able to justify? What if he walked in on me murdering a bunch of puppies? "The indoctrination for murder would be useful experience for any soldier on the battlefield"? This guy is nuts lol.

He walks in on me banging his wife. "You must care deeply about making people happy, we could use someone like you".

he is grey not evil kind of the point and pun.

And ya the whole sacrificing for a friend thing is pretty big to point it a major trope cliche in countless things.

Duncan is just a proud dad Warden commander.

You could never disappoint him.

Funny, but to be honest, he doesn't really care. He says as much in every single scene he's in; that Grey Wardens are needed and must do everything in their power to defeat the Darkspawn. All he cares about is putting another body on the front-lines, unlike Alistair who's delusional about the Grey Wardens and their role in Thedosian society.

Also, those are the age-old phrases used by NPCs in games to stroke player ego no matter what choices they make. Bioware games are full of that.

This. You could be an absolute monster, vicious and selfish mass murderer, but as long as you demonstrate the requisite skills he would be impressed. Sneaking a known blood mage out of the circle tower past the templars, without resorting to blood magic yourself, has got to be fairly impressive given I can't imagine it has happened very often, or at all.

They need someone strong enough to withstand the taint and able to kill a lot of darkspawn right now. If you survived the blight and were difficult for them to deal with during peace, I assume they would just send you off to the deep roads early or something.

Regarding Duncan's wife, Daveth "picking his pocket" might have been a euphemism, especially since he doesn't have any stealing or pickpocketing skills when you first meet him ...

About the puppies, isn't it odd that the 2nd child of the Cousland's is the only one in Highever with Mabari's? Didn't Jory just move there? He says he won a tournament, but who's to say he didn't sneak into the kennels and kill all the Mabari puppies?

Yes, this man is a legend in being able to justify heinous acts. I wonder what he would say to Hitler or Jared from Subway. They could make some good darkspawn horde fodder.

Poor Duncan. The world is about to end and he can't get anyone to listen to his warning.

There is a blight going on with darkspawn hordes ready to overrun the world again.

He couldn't care less about your alignment as long as you kill the big bad dragon

Grey Wardens don't marry since they tend to not live long because of the darkspawn taint.

Except of course for the ones that do.

Justice (the warden formally known as Kristoff) and that guy in the mines with the crushed legs that wants you to take the wedding ring back to his wife.

Where does it say that in the game?

I forgot about that, my bad.

You will learn all about that from Morrigan, late in the game.

I think you would learn from Morrigan that no one should have children. Grey Warden or not.
