I also THINK you can get them without the persuation check if you are a Dwarf.
Edit : From The DA wiki website :
After the Warden has returned from the Deep Roads and chooses the new king of Orzammar, Kardol appears in the Diamond Quarter. He announces that the Legion will attempt to cut off the horde's retreat after Urthemiel is slain, but he can be persuaded (four points in Coercion are required) to bring the Legion topside to fight the Blight directly. However, if the Warden is a dwarf, he will gladly offer the support of the Legion without asking him. If the Legion participates in The Battle of Denerim, he will appear as an ally atop the roof of Fort Drakon during the final battle against the Archdemon.
Really? I've always rushed to max coercion.
Same here but I play Rogues mostly so its easier
I dont see the point really. Sure it could prevent a fight with Sten but you still get a option to let him remain. Alistar goes insane on you if kill that kid. Think seen -20 opinion and could have been persuaded to prevent so much loss. But still have gifts to get the opinion back. Think you can persuade a couple npc to avoid fights. But why do I want that. That will not give me any xp. Can not use it to negotiate discounts with merchants. There sure is a few items with merchants that are so expensive that so dont see the point to buy.
I like playing charismatic characters and having options even if I don't always use them.
Besides, it's not like the other skills are overly useful for a mage anyways.
