Why No Steam Achievements?
The game has 109 in-game achievements. I can understand a dev being too lazy to make achievements for their games, but they already exist in this game. EA, literally all you have to do is enable them on Steam. WTF is the problem?

Because EA decisionmakers are miserly greedheads and thus can't bothered to expend the thought or resources for the tiny financial reward that sort of support for old titles might theoretically gain. And being miserly greedheads, the thought of doing it as a goodwill gesture simply wouldn't occur to them.

EA = Greed bastards

Understood? :valakas_haha:

Self-interest is not the same thing as greed. It might cost EA a lot of money to implement what you're calling for and EA is not your parents, they don't owe you anything.

DAO would not exist at all if it were not for the profit motive. It would be irresponsible for any corporation to spend money on a game like this that's more than 10 years old without hope of compensation. Enjoy what you have and stop wishing for the moon!

First, EA had nothing to do with DA:O, and has done nothing for Bioware loyalists.

Second, EA behaves like a villain. The NHS in the UK has issued warnings about the destructive and predatory promotion of lootboxes to children, which EA has explicitly stated they will continue, even AFTER being subject to criminal complaints in France and Belgium (since resolved without penalty; other jurisdictions still consider lootboxes gambling). As a side note, they are being sued in civil court in California for allegations they are nerfing online FIFA players in real-time for the purpose of making additional lootbox purchases a competitive necessity. And don't get me started on levels of executive compensation that even some large institutional investors find objectionable.

Last, remember your endorsement of EA's practices when the next ME and DA titles are published (if indeed they are). Just be ready to lap up microtransactions and grindy, pay-to-win game mechanics with a smile--and this after a 70usd purchase price.:steammocking:

What's left of Bioware is a division of EA who owns the copyright to the DA series. As with the Mass Effect series, no work can be done on any of these games without EA's permission and cash outlay.

EA is not in the business of supplying starving babies with food. Games are luxuries, not necessities and we can take or leave them as we wish. I do not "endorse" EA's business practices, I merely recognize them for what they are. If the gaming community at large finds EA's revenue enhancement schemes offensive, they can opt not to play those kinds of games.

They recently announced a remastered Mass Effect series, and while I'm sure that project cost them a great deal of money, they clearly think they can recoup that investment. They may or may not think the same is true of the DA series. Combines sales of the ME series (as of a few years ago) was over 17 million units. The DA series lags behind with about 12 million units sold. Perhaps they will or perhaps they won't. I don't care because I find the original games to be tremendous fun despite the obstacles to running them on modern hardware.

Too many posters here seem to think game publishers are in the business of pleasing them. Nothing could be further from the truth - they're in the business to make money. If making video games wasn't hugely profitable we would be stuck with one or two boring indie releases each year. So don't expect freebies and get into a snit when they aren't forthcoming.

Keep faith. Also, the game has "inside" achievements! So there's that while we wait.

Because they don't care anymore at this point, it's an old game.

offtopic: That's nice and all but if EA could make a buck doing so, they would totally feed those starving babies. Also, entertainment is a necessity to survive the human condition, even Australopithecus entertained themselves.

ontopic: Who cares? Steam achievements haven't been meaningful since that sale when they could be used to pick up more games.

I think I had racked up several hundred hours in the game before I even knew there *were* achievements. I mean, they're like "participation trophies."

Right. Who cares? The game is the thing.

It would be nice if there were achievements but I would prefer them with a remaster. DA:O could use some love and it wouldn't hurt to modernize some of the old clunky bits of the games, maybe add in a few fixes, update the graphics, add in more tactics, fix bugged stats, and I wouldn't mind it if they added more items for variety for objects like daggers, bows, shields and gear for Arcane Warriors. Or maybe that would be changing too much. Otherwise there are achievements on console and in-game so I'm not sure why they would go out of their way to do that.

Add achievements, plz!

I wish they'd add achievements to this game. They give you more of a reason to sink more time into a game than it takes to simply complete the storyline.
You kids and your annoying obsession with achievements....not every game needs them. This game is fine with the version they have, or with none at all.
