Thanks for the suggestion! I was also having this issue. Changing the texture quality from high to medium was enough to solve this crash for me.
I wonder if Morrigan and I spamming spells was just a bit too much for the game to handle.
I think DAO probably as a similar problem that Neverwinter Nights had, with textures getting stuck in the texture cache without cycling out. That would explain why the big, persistent special effects from some spells can be a problem. It would also probably explain the problems people have in Denerim, which is probably the biggest and also most detailed area in the game.
