City Elf is great, and you get some brilliant lines to use on Cailan.

Cousland is fab because of the personal vendetta with Howe throughout the rest of the game.

Dwarf Noble is a great one as well IMO.

Magi is also good, some fun lines for being a mage and its backed up because you have the power to go with it.

I though Dalish was lamest though.

city elf or noble both tie in wil loaghan and howes scheming and the main quest more than the other. i tend to play one of them for that reason.

or mage i dont like the mage origin but i like the class

i didnt mind dwarf nobel but outside orzamar it doesnt tie in with much

While several of the others have a more personally involved story, I always seem to come back to the Mage. Simply because it's dealings with the Fade and magic feels more immersed in the fabric of the setting.

Human Noble just "feels" right for the story, but I tend to find myself playing as a mage on my complete playthroughs.

Usually go Mage or Archer in these types of games myself, not one for in your face combat. Doesn't really matter which class you start out with in this game tho cause you end up getting companions of all types to cover all your bases. So far only seen the human mage and rogue beginner stories and both aren't to bad.

ummmmmm you even play the game? Joke aside assume you did and just happen to only care about combat, but this very OP is about Origin Story to begin with... and also Mages in this can not be every story.. hence why some people saying they like that story most.
