Is Vortex all that's necessary to install mods?
Kind of a funny question but I'm almost done installing mods for my playthrough and it all just seems too easy- do I really not need to use any other programs or a dedicated mod manager for the game to enable some mods?

Yeah with vortex it is easier then ever. (and some still screw it up) It has been a long time but I would say the only other thing you "MAY NEED" is a LOOT program or mod organizer to get the files correctly in place.

i just install them manually , better that way instead of vortex because i use the gen char compiler to combine my cosmetic mods such of hair styles, skin textures etc into one file so they work together. vortex is great for games like skyrim and the like but I feel it does not play well with dragon age origins. its real easy to do manual and you do not have to worry about errors popping up and crashing the game through character creation if vortex is used.

when it comes to DAZIP files there is already installer in the dragon age game folder that can install them properly. its called DAUPDATER

Think actually I'll use a proper manager just to be safe.

You can go with DAUpdater as Xerica suggested, it was built for it. More serious mod managers are not needed in Origins, it would be rather "overkill" let's say.

I saw suggestions for the DAO Mod Manager and went with it, though it does seems like I could have just used the regular updater. In any case, I can play worry-free.

i usually install them manually

(your pc/ documents/bioware/dragon age/packages/core/override)

i use this and dao mod manager for any dazips. the only thing i found complicated was the cosmetic mods like hair, makeup and skin textures because they all have a chargenmorph file and the game will only read one
(the main chargenmorphXML file located in your override folder).

now that i know how to combine them its not hard at all, just really annoying.

how to do so is open up your main game chargenmorphxml file with word or note pad
(right click to choose)
then get the mods chargenmorph

(it would be easier to rename it like "newchargenmorph" so you dont get confused with which is which)
copy/paste and line up the lines that are in the mods chargenmorph thats NOT in the main games chargenmorph. (so you will have to do a bit of reading and comparing)

press save on the main games chargenmorph and then delete the mods one and your done.

now that i try to explain, it really does sound complicated. i promise you its not once you get used to it, its just incredibly tedious and time consuming.

you CAN download a mod called chargenmorph compiler but its never worked for me so this is really in case anyone is struggling like i was with cosmetic mods. i hope i made some sense and if anybody is able to take what i said and make it sound any simpler. please do because im usually l terrible at explaining things XD

Vortex will install them properly however I found that vortex cannot for some reason launch the game but you will be able to launch it from steam and it will have all the mods that were deployed from vortex.
