DAOriginsConfig.exe crashes on first startup after reinstallation
Hi guys,

I just encountered a problem with my Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition copy. I reinstalled it after I got a new PC, but the game wont run ... I just checked the Windows event monitor and it revealed that the DAOriginsConfig.exe, Version: 1.3.0.11 crashed.

Does anyone has a similiar problem and knows a solution? Already reinstalled several times ... game cache has also been verified ... nothing helps :(

Does the launcher work for you? If so go in to the configuration tool and try turning off anti aliasing. Definitely increased the stability of the game for me.

Hi DarkFire, thanks for your reply! No unfortunately the above mentioned exe is exactly the tool which automatically configures the game dependent on the PC specs. My Specs are more than potent for ultra settings, so this might be a problem. The loading bar shown within the config menue doesnt progress a bit, and the window just closes itself, without anything happening. :(

Hmm strange. Try running the game itself to see if it loads - most if not all of the graphics settings in the configuration application can also be set in-game so if the game itself runs then you should be good to go.

Hi DarkFire, I already tried to run the game many times. The problem is that the Config exe runs automatically on the first start up of the game. So everytime I try to run the game (irrelevant if from steam itself or from the installation folder) the Config exe tries to do its job, but for some reason it fails. Not even an entry is written into the log file, because it doesnt even reach this functionality :( Already checked / edited the .ini file ... but even this doesnt work. I am running out of ideas v.v

I have this issue as well.

Basically, "DAOriginsConfig.exe" and "DragonAge2Config.exe" crash immediately upon startup. Attempting to run them as Administrator or altering the compatibility does nothing.

With Dragon Age: Origins, you can bypass this configuration utility and get into the game proper. However, I had no such luck with Dragon Age 2 - upon first run, it attempts to run DragonAge2Config.exe, which immediately crashes. I haven't found any way around this.

Hi TheVictorian, could you please tell me how I can bypass the DAOriginsConfig.exe? Didnt find a way yet :(

I would try: go to the game directory, in the redist run the stuff manually, delete the physx exe and install the physx legacy driver instead: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx/physx-9-13-0604-legacy-driver/ also get the 4GB patch, see guides.

All right, well, as I said I can bypass the configuration utility for Dragon Age: Origins, but that wasn't the case for Dragon Age 2.

The solution I found was to navigate to "Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age 2" and then create a blank text file. Rename this text file "systeminformation.xml" (without quotes) and click yes when Windows warns you about changing the file extension. And then *boom*...Dragon Age 2 starts.

Now, this is for DA2, but it MIGHT work for Origins as well, in this case place "systeminformation.xml" into your Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age folder

What appears to be happening is that when you run the game for the first time, DAOriginsConfig.exe/DragonAge2Config.exe attempts to gather information about your system's hardware, and for whatever reason it fails (I suspect it may have something to do with running it on newer hardware, but I can't be sure). When you create the "systeminformation.xml" it effectively tricks the game into thinking this has already been done, and thus it doesn't run the configuration utility.

Hi, I did install the physx legacy driver but I couldnt find a 4gb patch, coukd you link it please?

Ok, thanks TheVictorian, ill try it also like this. Pretty hard to figure any thing helpful out without any error message :(

Seriously!! They put out a 12.5 GB update last night and did not correct this problem!!
SkyQuake May 10, 2020 @ 10:15pm
What? Didnt notice any patch, especially not a 12.5 GB patch... Or do u mean 12.5 MB?
Nelson53 May 11, 2020 @ 9:21am
I don't know what it was, but it was downloaded at 11:55 PM the day before yesterday and it was 12.5 GB. I assumed it was an update of some sort.
SkyQuake May 11, 2020 @ 10:04am
well the game itself has a bit more than 15GB, so this would mean the patch would be basically the game itself. I remember that I downloaded something around 12 MB, but this was some time ago already. However, I used the LLA exe now and the game works for now. But I only see this as a workaround... ^^ I want the very same game back I played on my older PC.

This did the trick for me!! I had trouble starting the game up and creating an empty

systeminformation.xml file in "../documents/bioware/dragon age" enabled me to finally run the game
