It has amazing shelf life is all I am trying to say I guess.
Below is one of my modded characteers ( the girl)

If you can get past the occasional bugs and the horrible combat then there's a good game underneath. I've played it through twice both of which I enjoyed but have no desire to go back for a 3rd play through.
I'd say it probably is worth it given how cheap the game is on steam.
The story is good, the combat is good, the world is immersive, your NPCs are ALL interesting, and the amount of dialogue they say to eachother is outstanding both in length and quality.
I love that none of the NPCs are annoying. I genuinely wish I could bring all of them in my party all the time. The game has multiple endings that have GRAVE, WORLD CHANGING consequences...
I honestly never played DA2 or DAI...but my understanding is DAI lets you import your decisions from DAO into it. I can't imagine how the can possibly incorporate you possibly becoming queen, and possibly allowing a certain someone to possibly spawn what I can only imagine is the antichrist...
Very dissapointingly that is how, and why some like myself see DAI even further from a true sequel and more just same universe and similar happenings then already done thanks to fact DAO is Bioware while DAI is EA "bioware" .
But DAi is stil a decent game and 2 has terrific characters + Story (very well known joke bad maps, lower quaility enemies, poor combat, low customization, etc...)
So if you loved DAO so much most so for story+character suggest playing them still.
DA2 let's you import your save from Origins (both the main game and each DLC generate a save before the end credits roll you can use), but for Inquisition there's a web browser tool called The Keep that let's you edit all the main and secondary choices from both Origins and DA2 to import as a world state for it, so you could either recreate what you have done or make another background story altogether if you so wish.
Keep in mind that until Witch Hunt came out Dragon Age's future was still unknown, Bioware didn't know yet if it was to become a franchise or remain a standalone IP, so some of the choices are not really implemented well, while some other managed to find their way better, keeping it spoiler free about the two points your raised in the end for example, the first one it's a simple cameo while the second has a part in the story.
Because of this you'll find that Inquisition ties better with DA2 in fact being its actual prequel, with Origins having having its story as foundation, its sort of a separate story, there are recurring characters but the Blight and its events are basically just part of the lore, so consider DA2 a "new beginning" in the same universe with recurring characters, but a new beginning nonetheless.
I agree with Lukan above, while there is much deserved criticism is definitely worth playing them, just keep in mind that DA2 while being good and essential story wise, it was a very rushed game and the weakest entry in the franchise as a result, Inquisition is way more polished in every aspect.
There are some nice mods around, the essential is 50 Tactic Slots that totally enhances Tactics adding new features so we can create more complex workflows and let our companions do exactly what we want them to without having to micromanage on every turn.
I love to have my warrors and mages fighting on my side while I control my rogue.
After some dozen hours fighting against bugs on Oblivion it's relaxing to come back to DAO and just play the game in peace.
GOG has the Ultimate Edition on sale DRM-free.
Back when I started I was only used to action RPG's but the story, characters and replayability kept me coming back and started to appreciate the combat gameplay. I can't play it on any difficulty but Nightmare now.
I recommend it with all my heart.
