1. Open Task Manager.
2. Find DAO and right click and click 'Go to details'.
3. Find the DAO process, right click it and click 'Set Affinity'.
4. Set only one core to be used to process and hit 'Ok'.
Unfortunately, this didn't work for me, it seemed to caused frame drop and still crashed after running around the market for a few. Thank you for the effort though.
The Affinity Fix is a handy fix to have but is to pair with another fix called the LAA Patch to help with the framerate and overall stability. I'll provide a link as well as detail on the LAA Patch and the affinity fix.
Also, a handy fix to have as well is the Qwinn's Fixpack that'll fix a wide variety of issues, crashing and restore a range of content that was left bugged without the fix.

The video above is an excellent informative and helpful video. It both details how to fix the game, as well as how to mod it conclusively showing how to install some various mods. It mentions the LAA Patch as a fix for a crashing related memory leak issue, and Qwinn's Fixpack as fixes for the game. Definitely, worth watching, I stand by it. The video will also provide links to everything the video discusses. A fellow by the name of, SilasTender, in a previous discussion I assisted in providin it.

The Affinity Fix for Origins: The game has the design-build for older lower count core cpus compared to modern cpus. Using modern cpus by default with Origins often results in strange glitches, crashing, and bugs in the game. By following a section dubbed "Frequent random crashes," you'll be able to tell the game only to use one core of your cpu, so the game runs as it was designed to run. It is resulting in better stability. There is a more automatic way of implementing the affinity fix mentioned in the guide as well which is recommended.

The LAA Patch for Origins: Origins amount of Ram/Memory that it can use is quite limited due to it being an older title. Resulting in strange glitches, crashing, and bugs in the game. With the Patch, you'll be able to enable the game to more amounts of RAM/Memory for better stability. A link to the guide detailing the method of install. I recommend just installing the pre-patched exe for to ensure the best results:

(If you had done another way of LAA Patch outside of what the guide instructs or if a manual method doesn't work, please install the pre-patched exe instead.)
Run the game in Compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3): The game has a variety of issues running on modern Windows operating systems, 7 and up. Running the game in Compatibility mode will help ensure better stability, along with the LAA Patch, and the Affinity fix. To run the game in Compatibility mode, go to your games install/binship folder, right click "DAOrigins.exe" or "DAOrigins," and click the option in the pop-up menu "Properties." In the "DAOrigins.exe Properties" window, click the tab labeled "Compatibility," click the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for," and select "Window XP (Service Pack 3)" in the drop-down box under "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
(Note: If you run the game using a non-steam created shortcut to the game, especially if doing the automatic affinity fix option, do the compatibility fix on that itself. An example would be one created by right-clicking the game's exe file, clicking "Send to," and Desktop.)

The link above will inform you of a way to migrate your game to the Origin Client instead of Steam. Origin Client reportedly handles the game in a much more stable manner compared to Steam. By following the instructions mentioned in the link above, you'll be able to play the game for free on Origin, provided you have the game's key. Origin client is more of a last resort fix if all else seems not to work. I highly recommend doing all of the previously mentioned tweaks if switching to the Origin Client accordingly. It just proves to ensure the best stability, especially if the Origin Client doesn't resolve every issue regarding the game, which can still happen of course.
If in need of further assistance, let me know, and I will reply as soon as I am able.
I myself tried the 4gb patch and it didn't work for me and locked me out of my DLC. I play un-modded by the way.
I was desperate not to lose all the played hours and re-bought it on GOG when I already own it on Origin, Steam & Xbox 360. My preferred platform is PC for better control & graphics. After 20+ crashes I actually started looking for my 360 copy.
The simple fix is this: I read that DA:O has trouble with memory management due to it being written for older pc's so if it exceeds a certain amount, the glitches start which end in crashes. (weird shadows, npc's armor glitching in and out of existence. So I used the configuration tool to drop the texture settings to medium instead of high. And to make sure you can also drop the graphic settings to high instead of very high.
Works like charm for me. Just be careful not to transition from inside to outside real quick or else the memory fills up again and it glitches.
Even with hese settings, it still looks better then my 360 copy, so no worries about that. (the controls part weigh more for me though)
^^^ This! ^^^
Now what?
EDIT: Re-validated the game files. It fixed the starting error, but I'm still crashing.
EDIT2: Turned off the frame buffer effects. Everything's great now, although a little dark. But hey, if it's working, I'm going to roll with it.
